Saw this place on 'things to do' in the area and it seemed from the limited information from other reviews, their website, and photos it was a historic center that would provide history and tours of Brethren and Mennonite and how the people of this faith lived during the 1700 & 1800s. Unfortunately, this was not it. This is more of a religious educational experience. Its all about the religion and what the Mennonite faith is about. The tour guide was very nice and knowledgeable. There are many old/historic buildings on site but our guide really didn't seem interested in talking about history. He was very interested in talking about the Mennonite religion. We wished it was more of a historical tour/experience.

If you love history this is an amazing place to visit. The Heritage Center is an incredible place to walk the history of the Brethren and Mennonite in the Shenandoah Valley. From the Sing Me High Festival to Heritage Christmas this is a must visit for every family in the valley and every family with interest in the Brethren and Mennonite Heritage. For those visiting Harrisonburg, plan to spend a couple of hours at this beautiful site.

A wonderful little place on a beautiful hill near Harrisonburg. After reading the interesting exhibits in the Welcome Center, received a personal tour by John Horst, very knowledgeable and patient, of each of the buildings. The site is outstanding and marked by a number of historic buildings that have been moved there over the last ten years.

What an interesting experience. Such a wonderful education on the Brethren and Mennonite people. You get an opportunity to go through some old buildings that perfectly explain the history and the way of life for these groups. A couple homes, schoolhouse, and a shoemaker shop were a few we experienced. Photos and other tools and artifacts help enhance the experience. Sam our personal tour guide simply was perfection. Kind, knowledgeable, and was genuine in his appreciation for us coming. I do warn you, that you should expect to be there for 2 hours or so, if not longer and advise not to pick an extremely hot or cold day being outside mostly, but it is truly...

Was a very interesting tour, the tour plus video lasted around 2 hours plus a bit extra in the gift shop. The video was interesting but in terms of showing where brethren and mennonite differ from other denominations I thought it was lacking. History was interesting and most of the tour could have been done by yourself but the guide was interesting and fun to have along. Technically free but donations of 10$ per adult and 5 per student are requested. I would say it is a good kids thing but history nerds might want more. Buildings are very nice and have lots of interesting things inside that may not be strictly accurate for the exact period or use but...
