This a tiny but very attractive winery where one might not expect to find a winery—although the soil is rich and ancient. The 21 acres are hard at work producing a number of varieties from Chardonnay to Cabernets, although perhaps some in quantities small enough to require blending to produce marketable quantities.

Sheila had visited quite some time ago, and told me she and her friend had found the Chardonnay to be exceptionally good in the flight, and they consequently had purchased several bottles that they have been very happy with.

I purchased a bottle of “Church Creek Vintner’s Blend 2019,” although because I was driving and had a long way to go, I did not do any tasting. The tasting room is very pleasant, and there were many al fresco tables on the lawn, many of them occupied although it seemed a fairly hot day. The two attractive young sommeliers were very friendly, informative and welcoming, even giving me a very welcome bottle of cold water at my departure.

There is a generous private residence on the estate, but if you visit Chatham Vineyards it is preferred that you drive a left turn as directed to the Winery itself, where you should find...

We discovered through AirBnB that the winery is now renting out a farmhouse on their property. In a last minute decision, we decided to treat ourselves for the Labor Day weekend and take a little staycation. It was two couples and a toddler in our party and upon arrival we were treated to a complimentary tasting, which was just what the doctor ordered after holiday traffic!! John, the owner, greeted us and shared the history of the home and made us feel very welcome. The home itself is decorated beautifully and very much in line with the time it was built. The property was serene and gorgeous!! With views of the fields, a private path down to a dock (with use of kayaks if you’d like) and rocking chairs for porch sitting...we all felt like we had escaped to another time. The house had everything you could possibly need, the beds were very comfortable and they even had an old antique tub for those of you who like to take a sip to relax!! Highly recommend if you are looking to get away...

I visited from Florida with a friend of mine and our wives. We tried the Steel Chardonnay and some oysters. This was my first time even trying wine. My friend visits frequently. I had an amazing experience. I am now a wine drinker and I even have a collection of wine now. I have a glass a night. I joined the club, and bought three bottles of the Steel Chardonnay. Since back I have placed an order and I will continue to place a monthly order for each of the red and whit wines. Very happy I was introduced to the winery and I talk about it all the time. You have gained a customer for life and I even buy bottles to hand out every once in a while as gifts and to promote your wine club. Thank you so much and I look forward to...

If you go to this winery don't expect a big fancy tasting room, bar, and/or event space. This is very much a working winery where they grow and process everything that they sell. We did a flight of six which is all the wines that they sell with the exception of a dessert wine. Our personal favorites was an oak aged Chardonnay and a Cabernet Franc. They don't have a kitchen there but they do have some munchies available if you want to just have a glass of wine and relax for a while. They do have both indoor and outdoor seating but the indoor seating is extremely limited so beware of bad weather. Regardless if you're on the Virginia Eastern shore this winery is your only choice, but thankfully it's a good one.
