We visited Douthat State Park for our second time, this time staying in a cabin; cabin 29. The fall colors were more vibrant than I thought they would be. We had a pleasant stay and enjoyed the fall colors and pleasant temperatures. The leaf color around the lake was colorful, and though the sun was behind clouds for most of our stay, the leaf color still came through. We hiked the Stony Run Trail to the switchbacks where we looked for the falls. We were unable to locate the falls, but on our way back we saw a bear. He was eating not far from the trail. When I turned and told my sons there was a bear and turned back to see the bear, he went running fast away from us. We continued on our way back to the parking lot. We then went and parked at another trailhead parking and walked to the swinging bridge and the metal bridge. With the sun sinking, we stopped at the lake and walked the beach side trail. The sun now setting, we headed back to our cabin and enjoyed a fire in the fire place. Our stay was enjoyable. I look forward to coming back again.

We love this lake, it is a great lake, and cleaner than Smith Mountian. You can actually see your feet. The grill sites are clean, and the park is clean. It is one of the best State parks. My only suggestion is to fix the bathrooms at the grill sites. They are dark creepy, and kind of gross. But other than that it is an awesome place to go. Camping is available here too if you so choose to.

Calm, relaxing lake with still water and a path that revolves around the lake. There is a pavilion, a park, various picnic tables and a lot of benches. So beautiful!
