Beautiful park with lots of activities. Designated electric aircraft flying area is wonderful and all the facilities are well maintained. Great place for sports, bocce, flying, riverside activities, and paddle sports launching.

If you are a uav flyer be aware that they have regulated drone flying and may be in conflict with state code.

"15.2-926.3. Local regulation of certain aircraft.

No political subdivision may regulate the use of a privately owned, unmanned aircraft system as defined in § 19.2-60.1 within its boundaries. Nothing in this section shall permit a person to go or enter upon land owned by a political subdivision solely because he is in possession of an unmanned aircraft system if he would not otherwise be permitted entry upon such land.

2016, c. 451; 2018, cc. 851, 852."

They require $25.00 registration fee, AMA, membership proof, and only allow flying at two fields in this park while wearing their permit ID and ban drones at all other parks and recreation parks in the county.

None of this detracts from the quality of the park, this is a national issue that a lot of places are struggling with. I would not have mentioned it if the restrictions did not reach county wide. Please read and obey all applicable rules and regulations and fly safe while you enjoy the breath...

Huge and beautiful Roanoke County park situated west of Salem. The best review I can give it is this: every time I post a park photo on Facebook, my friends from all over the country comment "Oh my gosh, you're SO lucky!" There are plenty of walking trails, including the Roanoke River Greenway, fishing spots, picnic shelters, kids play areas with equipment, several geocaches, sports fields, all with unbelievable mountain views. People walk dogs, fly drones, hike on the wooded trails (Paw Paw Trail), run, cycle, swim, fish or skip rocks in the Roanoke River...most every form of outdoor recreation you can imagine is possible in Green Hill Park. In addition, there are plenty of festivals and events here throughout the year. The Marine Corps Mud Run, Green Hill Highland Games, Touch-a-Truck, the Zombie 5K Race, and many others. Rest rooms (porta potties) available. Access and...

Greenhill is just down the road from us and our kids love it! The grounds are typically clean and the playground is fun for the kids. We've taken our pups before but did not this time. The only thing I could see that may help is to have a bathroom. They do have porta Johns but those address very inconvenient when a child needs assistance or too changed. They all had a great time either way! As a parent, I love that you can sit and see all of the play area and your car. I've run, biked, swam, watched soccer, watched baseball, and used this park for pictures. The lightly rolling hills and shaded spots provide the perfect layout for families to enjoy almost any...
