A Serene Escape
From the moment I stepped into Happy Hollow Gardens Park, I was enveloped in a natural oasis that seemed a world away from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The park's crowning jewels are undoubtedly the vibrant azaleas, blooming in a riot of colors that paint the landscape with hues of pink, red, and white. It's a breathtaking sight that beckons nature lovers and photographers alike.
The several different walking trails are delightful in their own right. Totalling about 2 miles, these well-maintained paths offer varying levels of difficulty, but none are strenuous, and most can accommodate a stroller. Each trail presents its own unique scenery, from whispering woods to the "amphitheater", ensuring that every visit feels like a new adventure.
Nestled within the park's expanse is the Burgess cemetery/memorial, a poignant reminder of the area's rich history. This solemn and respectfully maintained site offers a moment of reflection and connection to the past, adding a layer of depth to the park's already peaceful atmosphere.
Happy Hollow Gardens Park is a gem that provides not just recreational opportunities but also a tranquil retreat for the soul. Whether you're there to admire the floral splendor, enjoy a leisurely walk, or pay respects at the memorial, this park is a five-star experience that leaves a lasting impression. Highly recommended for anyone looking to immerse themselves in nature's beauty...
Read moreI had learned several days earlier that this place existed and that it had a boardwalk going through azaleas. Wet weather delayed us from our first opportunity, but the weather was excellent the next day, Saturday. We had been concerned the place might be crowded.
The last few miles of the drive were through rustic areas on a winding narrow road. Very pretty scenery, sometimes of the mountains and valleys. It's all paved and safe, and there are lots of houses around. Lovely tall forest trees.
The small parking area was a bit crowded, but there were still a few places to park. There is a portable toilet at the parking area.
The majority of the azaleas, all in full bloom, were very close to the parking area. If hiking isn't your thing, it needn't be. But there are trails that wind through the park. The trails are nicely labeled, but they didn't conform well to online maps I'd found. But you can tell which trails are the main ones, so you really won't get lost.
There is a sheltered picnic area. Several other tables and benches also available.
I was also impressed learning some history about the park. It belonged to a family. They loved it so much that they donated it to the county so others could enjoy and care for the place.

Read moreVery nice, quaint trails. Easy hiking. It's not super smooth; you'll be stepping over rocks and roots once the walkway ends, but it's still a reasonably easy hike with nice scenery, lots of charm, and a good history.
I would be mindful, some of the trails are slightly overgrown (as of my recent visit) Thorns here and there, plenty of places to twist an ankle if you're not careful. Might not be super friendly to small children and young or senior pups. Both my child (1.5yo) and my senior pup (20yo) managed to get up just fine, but had to turn back at the overlook before the memorial site because of the aforementioned reasons.
Overall, nice quaint hike, perfect spot for an outdoor lunch or outing with...
