I came here for this event they had on Jan 4th. Listed online for like 10 or 15 dollars. The site was vague and did not give too much information. We said what the heck let's give it a try. When you get there it is kinda what was advertised. Doughnut and wine pairing you get a very tiny piece of doughnut and then if the hostess decides to pour a normal amount you get wine. Now normally you will see a mark on the glass for where to stop or the count the second. They had no marks so she should be counting the pour..... She did not and under poured me and my sisters glass every time. When I can see the first two ladies are getting a substantial difference in pour we have a problem. The tasting was a good way to find out if you like any of their wines. Overall I don't they had one or two gems and the rest tasted not so good in my opinion. Now I will say this all of their wines were milder than ones you buy in a store or other wineries. If it was a dry wine it did not feel so dry basically. I will not go back to this place I prefer Potomac point winery in...
Read moreI'll start by saying we've visited Mattaponi winery several times in the past and have had positive experiences, and we know what to expect from the wines when we go.
We visited on Saturday. The weather was raining when we arrived so it wasn't busy, which was great.
Kristy (spelling unsure) assisted us with our tasting. While she was admittedly newer to the winery, she did an excellent job pouring wines and providing outstanding service. She was very hospitable and friendly the entire experience and provided good overviews of all the wines.
Admittedly, my wife and I aren't fans of sweeter wines (a majority of these are sweeter), they're still enjoyable for those looking for something sweeter or different.
The location is good for enjoying a glass or bottle on the property. Nothing fancy but offer tables in and out, and covered seating around the building.
Overall worth the visit based on the excellent service alone, but tailor your expectations on what wines you expectations to try while there. Thank you, Kristy and Mattaponi for...
Read moreItâs sad because I was initially excited to have a winery nearby my new home. However, after visiting on a Fredericksburg Wine Tour this past weekend, I can say that Iâll never return. It was our last stop out of the four wineries on the agenda and it was the most unwelcoming. The lady who âgreetedâ us was not pleased. All we heard from her was how she wasnât expecting us and how âIâm not trying to rush you all, but...â other customers might come (meanwhile 20 are standing in front of you!), etc. She just wasnât friendly at all. I didnât catch her name, but she was very petite and wore her hair pulled back in a bun. The other lady with her had salt and pepper hair and wore glasses. Very nice lady! Several of us (people I didnât even know in the tour as well) caught on to the first ladyâs attitude. We didnât even want to buy products because we didnât want to give HER our business. I do not...
