This is a great "Free" place to go mountain biking in the DC area. Let me say up front this place can be as easy as you would like it to be or as challenging as a professional MTB'er.
I consider myself ordinarily average using gym clothes, motorcycles gloves and sneakers to ride and have a blast. While in great shape physically I am a mere mortal when it comes to the aggressive and very technical terrain Meadowood has to offer. My 29'er is up to the task me however, not always. I have bit it more times than I would like to admit.
Even my novice MTB'er girlfriend enjoys her time slowly climbing and descending the trails here but it can be a lot to handle and she has digressed from me to kissing a few trees now and again.
Anyways - This is a free place to ride, free place to park and its clean, clean, clean. My upmost respect to all those volunteers that make this place what it is, job well done folks.
Back to the trails, there are some really cool and very technical manmade trail enhancement placing the rider almost 45 degrees, take a look at the pictures and you’ll see what I mean. This is a great way to stay in shape over the weekend, keep kids active, healthy and moving and more importantly – out of trouble. Way to go Meadowood Trail team, we’ll be back...

how to find: You’ll find “Boss” about 1.2 miles in on the south loop (if you start by sticking to the right (past the fallen tree). “Yard sale” is another mile further down the south loop. You can’t miss the entrance to either, there are big signs.
The two courses are genuinely intermediate/advanced mountain bike courses. This is not for beginners. That said, most of the individual wood features can be bypassed if they appear to be too difficult. I recommend a slow tour down the course before diving in. (Though the second hairpin wood turn on “Boss” requires good speed or you’ll slide off (ouch!)
because the features are wood, do not attempt the courses after any recent rain.

This easy loop has several parallel intermediate trail options with features such as elevated treads, small tabletops, and bermed turns (including a semi wall ride). Elevation change is significant, but there are no 'iron lung' hills to tackle. Best suited for shredding tight flat turns, pumping, and manualing over root sections. Three trails (Stinger, Boss, Yard Sale) are one-way, no hikers. All other are shared use,...
