This is a great park we happen to find in the area. After spending the previous day at the winery, we needed to do a small hike. Unfortunately, it was extremely cold and windy and we didn't have bug spray, so we didn't get didn't get too adventurous. For these reasons, we tried the easiest trail--the Meadow Loop Trail. It was an easy loop around a grassy area, took maybe less than 10 minutes.
There was a very detailed map at the entrance of the trails. This included all the available trails, the level of difficulty for each trail, basic etiquette, friendly reminders, etc. There was also a reminder that everyone needs to watch out for each other --hikers, bikers and horse riders. We didn't see any horses, but we did try to dodge the "presents" they left behind. We did see some bikers returning from the trail.
There was a large parking lot, which most likely fills up when the weather is nicer. Cameras are watching the parking lot, but it's always best to lock cars and hide valuables :). There were bathrooms available, but not the type with running water....if you get what I mean!
Would I return? Can't say for sure since...
Read morePreddy Creek is a great multi-use trail system near the Albemarle/Greene county line. It features some up and down, we're not in the mountains, and none of the hills are too big; just enough to keep you honest. And though it's not super big, there are enough trails to keep you coming back for more. I would say it is primarily used for mountain biking, so if you're a hiker, be aware that a lot of bikes are out there. It's also set up well for horseback riding. I've mountain biked and hiked the trails, an I can say that most of the trails are beginner to intermediate for bikers. Watch out for slick leaves in the fall! There's one trail that is closer to expert, but not too over the top. The maps are great, so get informed before you go in the woods, and you'll know what...
Read moreA small drive out of Charlottesville takes you to a very well maintained hiking, biking and equestrian trail system. Trails were very well marked and very well maintained. Gates dont open until 7 sharp and the park closes at 9. Good variety of trails with nothing too terribly technical. No big jumps that I saw. The advanced loop is not quite as bad as the sign at the entrance to the trail would lead you to believe. Of course difficulty is subjective. I've been riding with thought of improving my skills for 1 year. There are no impassable trail obstacles. Overall a total blast with some wooden bridges and one long wooden skinny on the other side of the creek. If you're a pro you'll probably be bored here, if you're like the rest of us you'll enjoy...
