We made a pit stop at the lookout as we were driving through Virginia. The reviews said that it was a good place to walk a dog and, it was perfect! Just a short walk to what remained of the fortress, not hard at all, and an interesting story, equally short to the walk. One lookout point required a climb of stairs.

If you are at war, it was a good place to be. A formidable defensive position which was employed with definitive success. It didn't require much explanation as it was obvious why the position was selected. The explanation boards filled in any missing details. As far as historic Civil War sites go, it was one of my favorites.

Not many people there, didn't have...

Great place to learn about local history never crowded. Great place to meet other people. Very well kept very orderly felt very safe in the parking is adequate. It's a little small for my taste and I would like a little more hair to walk around in but you know can't have everything but the signage could be updated a little bit it seems faded and worn out so it needs to be replaced comfortable bench to sit on and contemplate the battles that happened there and the men who died and why they died there. Great place to reflect and relax and think about history...

Nice park - part of the Richmond Battlefield park system and operated by the National Park Service. This is the Fort built overlooking the James River that bombarded the USS Monitor and drive it away from Richmond. There is a parking area and a 10 minute walk back to the site. It is a self guided tour but they have done a fabulous job with the signage and exhibits. There is a replica cannon and a platform with a beautiful view down the James. Open during...

I saw lots of sweet flowering plants including a nightshade, passion-flowers, some jewelweed by the creek, two different types of morning glories. Also, the biggest grasshopper I've ever seen and lots of Devil's Walkings-stick trees. Pretty sweet all around. Nice creek, mosquitos down there. Apparently, it also used to be the scene of war goings on.

Beautiful historical site! Earthworks encompass most of the area but the highlight is an original cannon aimed down river to stop the Union boats trying to reach Richmond. Wonderful view of the James from the top of the bluffs!

Historic Location.. Trail is good.. Not seen any people when I went.. It will be good if they recreate how it looks in 1860.. Also lots of Maintenance and Basic Tourist amenities are required.. River view is blocking by trees
