Tony and I went to Roaring Run Furnace In the Jefferson National Forest. This is a stone Built Pig Iron Furnace built in 1830. This 192 yr old construction is still standing

There is 2 trails to the waterfall. We took the shorter trail that winds around the creek Banks and crosses a few bridges. The water was moving rapidly over large rocks. Very nice path but lots of roots.

The park was easy to find with GPS. It is free to enjoy. Plenty of parking and restrooms. Well marked trails. The Furnace is located about 500 feet from the parking lot and bathrooms. There is plenty of picnic tables and a creek for fishing and cooling off in warmer weather. There is also a waterfall to hike to!! Nice park and highly recommend especially for the historic value! Great day trip or field trip for...

Roaring Run is a family favorite for us. We love this place so much for me. It's as great as going to a water park. Maybe even better. We go and plan to spend the whole day. Typically we take the shorter trail up to the falls play at the falls for a while. Let the littler kids get used to sliding on the slower rocks below the falls. Then we head down for the next sliding rock. Spend a good portion of our time there, then head down to the final sliding rock. The last sliding rock is a little more intense. But it's fun for the whole family with varying levels of slides. Also, the trails are great. The waterfalls are beautiful. We highly recommend for...

A wonderful "out of the way" hiking location with perfect photo opportunities! Not a difficult hike, but just be wary of your footsteps...... it's not a pleasant fall if you lose your footing. Make sure you bring water, and hit the head before taking this picturesque stroll. You'll definitely want to spend time taking pictures, a quick dip in one of the natural pools, and hike one of the trails that forms off of the main path. Please remember to pick up any trash that you bring, and please keep your children quiet. Other people are there for the scenery...

✨🌲 Roaring Run Falls – Eagle Rock, VA 🌲✨ Hiking adventures with my 5-year-old never disappoint, and this trail is pure magic. If you’re looking for an easy, family-friendly day trip, Roaring Run Falls is IT. 💚 We did the Roaring Run Loop Trail (1.7 miles) and it’s rated easy, perfect for kids, dogs, and anyone just wanting a peaceful nature moment. And if you don’t feel like doing the full loop, you can choose the Streamside Trail to the falls and come right back the same way—super simple and just as beautiful. ✔️ Along the way you’ll follow a bubbly creek with bridges, boardwalks, and mossy rocks everywhere (my daughter calls it the “fairy forest”). And one of the coolest surprises on the trail? The 19th-century Roaring Run Iron Furnace. 🔥 It’s this massive stone structure from the 1800s that once produced iron using limestone, iron ore, and charcoal…such a neat historic stop and fun teaching moment for little ones. At the end, you’re rewarded with Roaring Run Falls, a gorgeous cascading waterfall with shallow areas along the way perfect for little feet to splash (always watch the kiddos, the rocks can be slippery!). A few bonuses that make this spot even better: 🐶 Dog-friendly trails 🎣 Fishing allowed in Roaring Run Creek—great trout spot 🚻 Bathrooms available at the parking area 🍉 Picnic tables for lunch with a view 🌲 Tons of space for kids to explore safely If you’re in the Eagle Rock area, pair this with a stop at the abandoned lime kilns or explore some nearby cute small-town restaurants like the iron and oar grill or maw and paws diner. This trail is one of the most underrated gems in Southwest VA and such a perfect adventure for families. 🥾💚 #VirginiaHiking #RoaringRunFalls #FamilyAdventures #ExploreVA #HikingWithKids

The trail is very easy. Anyone can do it without a problem. One side of the loop follows a very scenic stretch of Roaring Run, with many cascades along the way. Also seems to be a bunch of swimming holes as well. Trail ends at the main drop. You can continue over the falls to go to the Iron Ore trail, or just go back and take the other side of the loop along the ridge and end back down at the furnace. Trail is very well maintained. Gets really crowded in the summer months, but on the weekdays and in the fall / winter it’s not busy at all.
