After a four night five day camping trip to Rural Retreat Lake Campground with my family we had a very nice time in site 46! This is not a bougie campground! It's very much a camp ground that has been around a few yrs! It still has a lot of life in it and the quiet atmosphere and spacious sites are very sweet! That being said you will most likely need to bring a fair amount of leveling blocks for sure on some sites in order to achieve a level camper! You will also experience a pretty laided back atmosphere in the campground as well! Most sites have a ton of shade which is super nice on these summer days! The play ground is pretty nice and my son had a great time playing on it! It would be awesome to see a bit more gravel added to some sites to cut down on the mud. We plan to be back early August for another trip and look forward to making more memories at RRLC!

Site #30. Not level. Had to wade through poison ivy to hook up the water. Which leaks. Needed extension cord to access electric, which is also on a slippery sloped hill. Picnic table is ridiculously placed at maybe 45°...4 pc of wood is $5. Seriously???? When I arrived I had cash. The child at the office said he'd have to take everything out of his drawer to give me change. It was $7 & change. I said you have a business, go to the bank....Then when I left, I asked for a receipt. Again, child tells me I can't have one, there's no ink in the printer. I said go to the store and get some, & at this point, I just had to laugh at their business model. Then I was blinded by the yard light every night. I guess some sites are more level, but don't stay in #30. Between the slippery gravel to access hookups, it wasn't worth it.

Great little gem in Rural Retreat. Nothing super fancy and it doesn't need to be. Camping offers both primitive ($20 a night) and water/electric hook ups ($30 a night). Several picnic shelters scattered throughout. Good size public pool ($4 a person) and they now have a nice 9 hole disc golf course with some wide open throws that's great for beginning to intermediate players!

We just spent a week here & though it did rain it wasn't a bad week despite the rain. The camphost was very friendly & greeted us with kindness. The camp hosts job is to greet each camper & that's it & he was exceptional.

The management needs to go behind the young adults to make sure the young adults are doing their jobs.

If our popup had a bathroom & shower it wouldn't have been a big deal about the bath house & restrooms

The shower heads are to low for tall people. When you call for them to clean the showers & bathrooms they didn't empty the trash or clean either & it said on the door to call if they needed cleaning. The shower walls were slimy. General maintenance wasn't kept up in campground or the roads. Need more gravel on the camp sites as it was mud where we were. If it had more gravel it wouldn't have been near as muddy. I witnessed a drunk stumbling out of the bathroom then threw his beer can in the woods. During the week was peaceful but the weekend is when we witnessed the drunks. If the County operates this campground then they should have law enforcement patrol through more often as we only seen it once during our week long stay. As a camper who camped I don't think we should have to pay to enter the pool at $3 a person nor should we have to pay $1 to watch your child play if we don't swim. Today as we packed up to leave I went to the restroom & witnessed 2 young adults who were there to clean opening the doors to the bathrooms & showers then snarling their noses & shuting the door & went to the next to do the same & DID NOT clean or do ANYTHING because they left.

The bottom of the pool in the 4ft area was slimy. On the kiddie side it was trashy. The umbrella water curtain didn't work at the pool on Thursday from 1230-6pm but after we left the campground to explore the area as we left it was working for...

Great place to fish or take the family out for nice day to enjoy nature. The lake has a wide variety of fish. They allow big fishing boats with gas motors on them, but you can only use an electric motor. You can also fish here 24/7 and there is a street light by the dock for those that may fish at night. The trout pond beside the main lake is nice, however, it gets fished really hard right after it's stocked. So if you are after trout, you may want to check the DGIF restocking schedule for better luck. It is free to fish and there are no parking charges. There are great trails around the lake for walking and biking. Since this is pretty much in my back yard, I've never camped there, however, I have driven through and the camping facilities are very nice and it is kept clean. There's a very nice playground for the kids near the camping area. There are also shelters with picnic tables available for rent if you are having a gathering or any other type of event.

All in all, this is a very nice place for a day out with the family or just walk around the lake. I am a regular during the fishing season and love this park.

UPDATE 5/25: Seems DGIF has done little to stock the lake, or the trout pond. This place is going downhill fast as far as fishing goes. Bluegill have taken over and there are very few, and I mean very few bass to be found. DGIF website says this lake is stocked with bass and muskie. It also says there are a lot of crappie...sorry, not the case now. Still a nice place to spend the day outside, but fishing is pretty much not...
