Septenary Winery has great wine and a wonderful setting to enjoy the natural beauty of Virginia. Unfortunately, our experience was diminished because of their strict application of a policy limiting visitors under 21 years of age. My wife and I visited with dear friends today and upon arrival my wife stayed in the car with our 6 month old baby girl while she finished a nap. We bought wine, sat down, and were enjoying the end of our day touring wineries in the area. The minute my wife and baby daughter joined the table we were told to leave. While the winery prohibits visitors under 21, it was unfortunate that the staff immediately dismissed us from the premises before we could even finish our glass of wine. All the wineries in the area were about to close in a half and hour, but the letter of the law was applied without a shred of grace. Next to our table was a couple with a large dog, but apparently families with sleeping babies are less welcome than pets. I understand the right of a private establishment to set age limits, but the disregard for our unfortunate circumstances and rigid application of the letter of the law left us feeling disappointed. This is all to say please do not bring children to this establishment so you can save yourself the inconvenience and...
Read moreGorgeous views from this vineyard. No options for a tasting flight, possibly due to CovID, but half glasses were an option. Half glasses were exactly half the price of a full glass, which were fairly expensive in their own right. I tried two whites and two reds instead of spending an arm and a leg on all of the available wines. The wines in and of themselves were great, although all of the reds listed were blends. Every wine I tried was distinct in smell and taste, except for a very similar oak barrel flavor between two of the red blends. Although I’m not a fan of the similarity of the flavor profiles of the two completely different blends, they were, own their own, good red wines. The whites were great on their own with no noticeable similarities. If there was an option for a flight to try everything, along with more reasonable prices (most expensive wine was around $55, average around $30... ouch!) it would have deserved 5 stars. Food was available in the form of a “picnic” bag including cookies, crackers, cheese, sausage, mustard, pretzels, and...
Read moreWonderful, welcoming, and welaxing! Ok- that last one had to begin with a W! We were greeted by the owners Sarah and Todd, then taken care of by server Sarah. The servers were friendly and professional, including going out of their way for the many guests enjoying their spectacular setting with outdoor seating, picnic tables, an outdoor pool setting, and sweeping views of the mountains. Of course, the wine has to be primary in vineyard experiences. Septenary wines were exceptional! We tried the sparkling Chardonnay, Estate Chardonnay, and Rosé of blended Chardonnay and Merlot. They had a number of reds that we were saving for next time, but the owner Sarah brought us out several of their beautiful red blends, especially the Cabernet Franc blends, which we really liked! Overall, it was a beautiful tasting experience with complex wines that appeal to all wine drinkers! And both Sarahs were wonderful as well-...
