Three individuals have gone missing at Donnell Vista Point in California: Nita Mayo (2005), Patricia Tolhurst (2014), and Breck Phelps (2016). All three disappeared without a trace at the same location, a lookout point in the Stanislaus National Forest.

This is a beautiful place to see but it comes with an unsettling feeling, knowing that many people have gone missing without a trace, followed by wide scale searches with NOTHING found. There used to be a bench with the name of someone who had gone missing from this site but the next time I went, the bench was gone. The last time I went to this beautiful place, there was a white truck parked in the parking lot. As soon as I got out of the car with my partner and my child, the person turned their truck on and pulled out of the parking lot. After walking the path, we realized that we were the only people there. We left shortly thereafter. Haven't been back since and have no plans on going back because of...

We've been here twice already, and both times were amazing! We didn't know about this place before, we were just passing by on our way to Bridgeport where we rented a cabin to celebrate my birthday in the summer of 2015 when we saw the sign that says "Donnell Vista", and my husband, who knows me very well know what to do... yes, we have to stop and check the view! Oh boy, we were surprised with what we saw. We end up spending more time than we usually do when we stop at Vista Points everywhere. This place is a gem, the view is just breathtaking! Our second visit was in the fall of 2016. I was hoping to take our friends here in the spring of 2021 when we went to Mammoth but the CA-108 was closed due to a late spring snowfall...

It was a great place to stop for a quick visit. Of course you can stay longer, we couldn't. What we did find was beathtaking. We could see the rain in the distance and our daughter was loving the smell of the rain. It was pet friendly but the women's bathroom was filled with bees, there was no soap, and my daughter decided it would be best to use the bathroom elsewhere. There was a dumpster by the bathrooms perfect for disposing your doggy poop bags. I saw a trail and many lookout points below where we parked. It would be a great place to come back...

This is well worth a stop. Most vista points are a viewpoint and sign. This is a full experience with 1/4 mile paved and fully accessible scenic loop with circular overlook to Donnell Reservoir and Dam. Educational signs along the path and plenty of rocks to kids or pets to scramble on. Pet friendly on leash. Even basic but separate restrooms. Limited parking which can fill up. Still a few spots on Memorial Day. A great opportunity to stretch your legs as you head over Sonora Pass.

Nice overlook of Donnel Reservoir and the Middle fork of the stanislaus river canyon. This parking lot has mysterious disappearances over the years of people just vanishing. Kinda adds to this areas adventure. There is a bathroom as well. If you have a few minutes to take the trail it is worth it for some photos.
