A little known, well hidden gem within the state of Connecticut. It doesn't have much in the way to offer as far as paid attractions but the options for fun are left to the imagination. Hiking, fishing, camping, swimming, canoeing, picnicking, as other activities are all possibilities in the largest nature reserve in the Constitution State. I have grown up in and around Patchaug and I return at least once every year. I highly suggest entering from the Voluntown side as the roads are actually paved, but for the adventurous person out there, any access road will get you there. Read moreGreat spot. Perfect place to go for a hike or trail run in the forest for hours without seeing anyone the entire time. There are also dirt roads for those wanting an easier option. It doesn't have the greatest trails in CT (some are just downright lousy- loose rocks or washed out), but it's huge and quiet which is a massive upside. Some really nice sections of pine forest that you don't see a lot that close to the coast. Read moreThis was an absolutely beautiful spot with large private sites and very peaceful campers -the lake and the trails were gorgeous and felt like heaven -however the people who do not camp ruin it for everybody else /they are loud and they are drinking -they bring a multitude of dogs when we are only allowed one dog -they party on a rock and don’t let you go there to fish /it was very sad because the camping was great but the people from the outside coming in ruined it for everybody why don’t the park ranger stop them and apply the rules to them when we have to follow the rules...
