I had just left Salamonie River Forest and was headed home and I saw this parking lot on the side of the road and a sign about Hanging Rock so I pulled in to see what it was. Definitely a pleasant surprise. What a cool place! A short walk through the woods led me along a fence and then to the edge of the river where I walked along this massive limestone cliff. I went out to the river to see the scope - beautiful. Like many have mentioned, it is a shame to see this natural beauty defaced with graffiti (and not even well-done graffiti!), so I hope that is able to be removed in the future.

The park was beautiful, I just was not sure how to report this any other way. It seems that right beside the wooden overlook someone had a fire where they burnt electronics and other metal items and left the ashes in the middle of the trail. If I had the right equipment I would have picked it up but there was tons of broken glass so gloves will be needed to clean it up.

After living out of state for several years, I was excited to return with my child to tell her the story of Hanging Rock. I didn't expect there to now be a sign, scenic seating, and open entry to the climb that I made so many times as a kid. It's been well kept and I was really pleased to visit again and see it's been cared for.

A local favorite for me and my family. Below is a brief description from Wikipedia.

Hanging Rock National Natural Landmark is a 4-acre site in Wabash County, Indiana that was designated a National Natural Landmark in May, 1986. The site, located on the southern bank of the Wabash River near the town of Lagro, contains an impressive natural exposure of fossilized coral reef dating from the Silurian Period some 400 million years ago. The limestone reef deposit rises 75 feet above the river and is being undercut by it, giving the site its...

A really cool place to check out. Short walk, easy access. Suggest taking a picture of the information sign. It describes all the different layers of rock you see as you're under the overhang. You can also continue the path around the rock where you'll find a way to rock-hop to the top for a great view. Continuing that path will return you to the parking lot. It doesn't take long to visit here and...
