What a wonderful hidden gem. I was raised near here and I love to go there and fish or drive the 1000's acres and enjoy the birds landscape. Miles and miles of roads and a covered bridge, remnants of the old ferry. The same ferry my 2x Great Grandfather took in the late 1860's when he was released from the Confederate Army after the war.

He caught a ride with a postal carrier out of Wadesboro and came home to Norwood. I believe it was the town of Center back then. You can be there for hours and never see anyone. You can ride your bike all day and never pass another soul.

The Rangers keep the roads perfect and debris free. Gravel where it needs to be and old structures like the Red House road. Gaddys covered bridge is a nice destination. Arrowhead Lake and just anywhere you go is an adventure.

Lots of history here and a lot of people lost their homes in the acquisition. Most not happy, but to have a protected stretch of land is priceless. After my Mother died, it was a place of healing. Mom was raised in the Fork area not far from here.

A wonderful hidden local treasure. I live in Indian Trail now and still take the 50min drive....

This place is amazing and educational for children and adults. This is the first time ever have visited in the winter. Every visit is different. We have seen many animals in the past including deer, opossums and racoons. During this visit we saw several turtles sunning themselves, water fowl and heard many birds. The winter scenery was absolutely beautiful. Especially the lake. We had never seen it flooded as it is drained in the spring and flooded in the fall. We live a little more than a hour away, but love to visit several times a year when vacationing at the beach or visiting family in Eastern North Carolina. I give this place my strongest...

Love this place! It's beautiful! Has a fishing pond with two piers! One pier is covered and has wooden benches and an altar for church services. There is a covered picnic area and a grassy area for recreation. There were two portable potties and also there is a main building there that I suspect has bathrooms, but it was locked! It has some nice, easy walking trails through the woods and also a boardwalk that goes through the water and into the woods! It is so peaceful, serene and...

Pretty neat place. Road runs around the swamp which you can drive through and read some informational signs. Unfortunately you can tell this place hasn’t fully recovered since Helene, which I guess is expected when federal funding is cut for the National Forest Service. Boardwalk is now partially open to the platform, with other trails still being closed. RT-1 isn’t open, not sure if or when it will be. Overall a nice place to spend the afternoon.

This is a great, peaceful place to walk and enjoy nature and wildlife. The paved trail is nice, although, if you decide to take the nature path be sure to bring bug repellent. I liked that it is a nature preserve mostly undisturbed by any man made efforts. The marsh area, pond and lookout areas are so interesting, you could spend a couple of hours here observing everything there is to see.

Let me start off by saying that the cell service was PHENOMENAL!!! Twice as good as what I get at home. Very beautiful and quiet place to visit. Great for a picnic, hiking, or just looking at nature. 10/10 would definitely recommend. Hiked roughly 5 miles when I went, but couldn't find the area where I was when I went with my cousin. Fun for anyone of any age. Safe and family friendly.
