Heritage is a good park with fields for many different sports. The fields are maintained well, and there is plenty of space for spectators to set up. The entire property is very large and has plenty of space for both organized sporting events as well as pretty area to just take a walk. On the weekends when attending sports events it is very congested, parking isn’t great and you must allow a minimum of an extra ten minutes just to get through the traffic. There is a small, average at best, playground. Unfortunately, it isn’t close enough to any of the fields that young brothers and sisters can go play and be in their parents site during games. They do have a very neat “Foot Golf” course on the far side of the park. The kids seem to enjoy it and it is a nice way for the soccer players to mix it up. The park has a nice walking path around it. I wish it were wider, but it is in good shape and has a couple of different options depending on how long you would like to walk. The park is dog-friendly regardless if you are bringing your pet to one of the fields for a game, or planning to walk them on the path. It would be easy for the park to offer pet waste stations as so many do now. This would encourage people to clean up after their pets. Even if they were to just put them in by the sports fields it would help to eliminate spectators from stepping in a mess while trying to...
Read moreI love walking in the park on the trails, where you can take in the wooded ambiance, and the manicured lawns. But, my favorite thing is getting there right when the park opens at 7:00am and walking in the serenity of silence on the trails through the park. I love kids, I have three myself (all grown) but being able to walk with only the distant sound of a lawnmower (sometimes) is so great - to get in tune with nature and it's just awesome. Especially when it is difficult to get to a state park or something like that. Plus in the summer especially the state parks around here have cars for like a mile waiting to get in right when the park opens and the park is then packed with people. I prefer to have some calm around me. So I do go to the state parks in the fall and winter (and the obligatory one time in the summer because my daughter loves it). Anyway, Heritage Farm Park is my favorite park in Frederick County and I have checked out a lot of them, because I used to run before I had two knee surgeries and can't run...
Read moreWe visit for walks with the dog, bike riding, geocaching, our daughter's sports games, frisbee golf, dropping off yard waste, and we used to have a garden plot. We've had our daughter's birthday party at one of the pavilions and been to many other birthday parties here, too. We enjoy disc golf here, too, and they've added more trees to hike 6 (and maybe others?). The only thing we don't take advantage of is golf (no holes, just flags).
Only cons: I hope you and your kids know what position ivy looks like: it lines much of the outer loop walking trail.
FYI: the mulch pile/compost is no...
