I am disgusted by the way my visit to this establishment unfolded . . .

Similar to the review that was posted two days prior to our visit, a group of coworkers and I decided to take the evening to visit this beautiful winery we had heard so much about. We had a lovely evening, taking in the views and planning our next visit, sharing a total of 3 bottles of wine among 5 people (over the course of about two and a half to three hours).

To our disappointment, when my coworker went inside to purchase a couple take-home bottles and a final fourth bottle to share before leaving, she was told that "the manager" instructed staff to "stop selling to that table." When my coworker came back empty-handed, sharing this news, we were all a bit taken aback. Not a single one of us was intoxicated, or even slightly drunk for that matter, as we had been eating throughout the night.

I went inside to clarify, and was greeted with the same cold and dismissive attitude by a woman named "Tammie." I attempted to clarify the confusion, as I was certain there must have been some sort of mistake... Again, I was told that "that table" (the only table in the establishment with a strong, beautiful, African-American woman seated) could not be served. Despite being seated directly outside the window from the bar and dealing with the same bartenders on both visits inside, we were accused of "already having" a fourth bottle (which was simply untrue, as we had only been inside the building once).

Again, I was confused and requested more information. I was told that this decision had nothing to do with our behavior, that we were not too loud, and that there is no objective "limit" to the amount of wine which patrons could purchase to consume on the property. I was repeatedly told “it’s at my discretion” to deny, without being provided with any justification for this decision.

This behavior was not only unprofessional, but inhumane. Needless to say, we will not be going back, nor will any of our family and friends. It's 2020, time to get with the times and start treating people with respect if you expect to get repeat...

I have been to this establishment multiple times and have never had an issue. While I was there yesterday, I was treated very differently than I have been treated every other time I have gone.

I went with a total of five people. We split three bottles over about a 2 1/2 - 3 hour time span. We were not drunk or even tipsy for that matter. We were not loud, slurring our words, or even getting up from our table. We sat, ate, and spoke to one another at a moderate level. Around the 3 hour mark that we were there, one of my coworkers bought three bottles (two to take home and one for here). When she said she wanted one opened for us to split our final fourth bottle of wine, they refused to serve her stating that we had too much and it was at her discretion to not serve us anymore. She was shocked. We all were when she informed us on what happened. (They did let her buy bottles to-go though)

Another coworker of mine went inside to seek information as to why they were denying us of buying another bottle. She was told that this decision had nothing to do with our behavior, that we were not too loud, and that there is no "limit" to the amount of wine which people could purchase to consume on the property. She was repeatedly told “it’s at my discretion” to deny, without being provided with any justification for this decision. She stated that her manager stated not to serve “that table” anymore.

I am disgusted by this visit at this establishment. I was very shocked by this decision and mentioned that when I was there for my sisters birthday, we split about 8-10 bottles over a 4 hour time span between 6 people. One of my coworkers then told me to look around as she was the only African American woman at this establishment. I hope that was not the reason that we were denied our final fourth bottle but there was no other reason presented to us to justify this decision.

We had a wonderful time prior to this encounter and planning our next visit to this establishment. I can assure you that we will not be returning and taking our...

On 10/01/2020, four coworkers and I visited this establishment after work. Upon arrival, we were immediately left at awe by the beautiful view and looking forward to a great experience ahead of us. We had taken an abundance of snacks and food to enjoy, along with purchasing 3 bottles of wine to split between the 5 of us. We enjoyed our time, and nearing the 3 hour mark, my coworkers decided to end the night by sharing 1 last bottle of wine. I went inside to purchase us all a bottle to share, as well as take-home bottles for myself. I was told by staff member Tammie that “that table” cannot purchase any more wine and was being “cut off”. Shocked and slightly embarrassed, I prompted Tammie to explain the basis of being “cut off”. Tammie reported that, per management, she was unable to sell to “that table”. Following multiple attempts of asking for clarification, I was denied further service. I returned to my group to share my experience, and a coworker went inside to get to the bottom of this apparent issue. Following a few moments, my coworker returned with the same information as I had received just a short while earlier. My coworker was told that we were being denied, but this decision had no relation to any negative behaviors exhibited throughout the night. Tammie reported that there was no bottle limit of consumption on the property, that our behavior was not unruly, inappropriate, or out of hand. We were simply being denied due to individual discretion. Another coworker commented, “Look around, I am the only woman of color here”. Amazed, we formulated the possible true reasoning for denial. After what had been a great night out, I can confidently say that myself, my coworkers, and my family/friends will not be supporting this business. It is sad to say that at Gouveia Winery, we cannot cohesively share the same respect and receive equal humane treatment. Due to this, we will be taking our future business to inclusive and...

There is no doubt that Gouveia is photographer’s dream, and as full-time wedding photographers, we have captured engagements and even surprise proposals here on the beautiful property. Whenever a client asks about a nice view in the hills, a vineyard or winery, something that feels almost like Europe, we tell them we should go here! We love how much the owners and staff allow us to use the property with ease. The scenic vineyard looks like a perfect set was constructed for us, and the long leading lines of the rows and driveway all help our captures. We love going by the pond with couples, too, making it feel even more like we have transported to somewhere that isn’t Connecticut. It’s never a problem having other visitors there, or being able to hide and then catch the moment the proposal is happening. You can blend in and then pop out with any family or friends to the jubilant couple, moving right into the engagement session on the perfect property for it. Sunsets are always because of the clouds, and if you hit the right evening, it can be unforgettable here. The couples all grab some glasses at some point as well and love the offerings Gouveia has in all regards. Thanks again to the staff for helping elevate all of our occasions on the property, and we can’t wait to be back for more! Scott Kruitbosch @scottkruitbosch Noella Barone @photosbynoella

It was a rainy Friday afternoon and my husband and I had planned a date day to Gouveia Vineyards long before the weather chose not to cooperate. We decided to go anyway and we have no regrets. We were greeted at the bar by Peter Gouveia with the warmest welcome. We told him it was out first time there and he made sure it wouldn’t be our last. We each decided on the 5-Wine Tasting for $15 per person (including a souvenir wine glass). We asked to sit outdoors and Peter dried off the picnic table and benches for us. The grounds are lovely and we enjoyed sipping our tastings, the view, the atmosphere ( our table was under a lush arbor), and each other. No one else was seated outdoors, we we put some music on our phone and spent the next two hours soaking it all in. Peter checked on us out there and even brought us an additional tasting of their limited edition chocolate dessert wine. Guests are encouraged to bring a picnic and a blanket and we surely will when the sun is out. We left with three bottles of wine, one of which was the limited edition chocolate dessert wine that simply spells romance. ♄

Beautiful grounds. Delicious wines. There is plenty of seating, both indoor and out. If you are noise sensitive, you'll want to get an outdoor table as it gets pretty loud inside. A wonderful two man band preformed while we were there. It was a busy weekend but it was well controlled. As we drove into the long driveway, with a beautiful lake to the left, a "flagger" was there to help us park. While there is plenty of seating, you may want to bring a blanket to enjoy sitting pondside. Be prepared to pay. The wine, while delicious, isn't cheap. $26-$32 a bottle. They also offer tastings. No outside beverages allowed so you'll also need to purchase water if desired. You are allowed to bring your own food, so it sort of evens out. There is a food truck on site as well. Limited bathroom, but they are clean. On cooler days/evenings a huge bonfire is lit, only adding to the ambiance. Romantic for two, or great for parties, showers, birthdays etc. Really beautiful winery in CT with spectacular views. Oh, you can bring your behaved, leashed dog in the outdoor areas, several guests did!
