It took us 3 and a half hours to hike to the lake, then walk around it. After that, we went further up to see the Estate ruins. I was not aware, but the group of Romanians we met on the beginning of the hike, and took us along with their group, took us up to the swimming pool. An empty pool that offered 360 degrees view of mountain tops on the horizon. That pool made us wonder where the water to fill the pool would've came from. So we went even further to the water tower, which you could not see it from the pool area, therfore, we had to hike a little more. Oh, did I mention that you can see Manhattan from where the Estate ruins are and also saw a few eagls resting on top of the trees? Pick a clear sunny day for this trip and you will...

PROS: This is one of the most structured ruins in the entire land. You're able to see the lightning rod still attached to it, the water pipe coming out of it, and you're capable of walking inside as it's still a 4 wall plus ceiling structure

CONS: There's no clear path to it as we followed other people's footprints in the snow. Also there's no sign by it telling you about it's history

OVERALL: Obviously if you're in the area you should come by to see this, you...

This old water tower is about 7 minutes away from the main attraction at the peak, the Van Slyke manor ruins. The tower is a nice picturesque spot, and during summertime you can see huge vultures hanging out on its top. I am removing one start from the review because some misguided souls have vandalized the bottom of the tower with graffiti, and the Park Service is taking its time...

Pleasant hike out to a creepy old burnt out estate. Interesting story backstory to the mansion and how it burnt down. Complete with scary old grown over swimming pool and tower. Trail head can be crowded on nice days so come early to get parking!
