First let me start by sharing that I have been to countless trails, across different states. ZERO stars. Not only was it difficult to find the entrance, the reviews are on point- the terrain makes it close to impossible to access the red and green trails. That only leaves the .5 mile trail. We took one of of dogs (thank god we didn’t bring our other 2). We don’t complain much about nature, we completed the trail and disappointment took over once we looped back around the parking lot so quickly. It must have taken us less than 20 minutes. You guys…. We were INFESTED by ticks. I’m talking at least 100 ticks+ just on my dog and husband alone. We spent close to an hour picking all of the ticks off. It was a nightmare, we never imagined that a short walk would lead to dozens of ticks on each limb. I had a cup and sprayed some bug spray to kill as many as I could. I have to assume we came across some kind of tick nest. We were just overcome by ticks, despite wearing appropriate clothing. Stay away, there’s not much to see. There are lots of frogs as well, they were harmless though. Do NOT bring your dogs or children here ever* This place needs some serious TLC, otherwise be prepared to deal with countless ticks and lots of...
Read moreGlenhurst is an expansive trail and meadow tract in Warren twp. Unfortunately it is in serious Neglect and Disrepair thanks to yet another corrupted, negligent township government so widespread in NJ.
Warren Twp property taxes are some of the highest in Somerset, due largely to waste and corruption within its immoral walls.
The meadow has enormous potential for hiking, running, biking and a peaceful walk in nature. But the corrupt township has chosen to allow Glenhurst to fall into a state of absolute unsafe and unnavigal tract.
Oddly, the townships residents appear not to care or be concerned with this lovely place being grown over and largely unused. A gem of nature that could be enjoyed by so many is likely being purposely neglected. The reasons can be simply deducted, since the property is surrounded by upper-income class residents... It's ashame and disgraceful that a public piece of land is mostly unusable due to inept, incompetent...
Read more4 stars with a BIG caveat we went when the floodwaters were frozen. Many of the trails are mere inches above the river and the ground was saturated but crunchy/frozen when we visited. I imagine during the summer you will need high hiking boots or knee-high rain boots would probably be good too. Trails are not long so rain boots shouldn't get too uncomfortable.
There are several benches placed throughout the preserve at wonderful nature-watching spots. There weren't many when we went in the winter, but I imagine in the summer the glades would be full of birds to watch (I expect this would be a five-star birding location). The ever present swamp several yards away means you'll definitely want bug and tick repellent.
No bathroom, and navigation may not easily lead you to...
