Disappointed Return to a Campground We Once Loved We stayed at this campground last year around the same time, and the experience then was absolutely amazing. The staff was friendly, we were left alone to enjoy our stay, and the environment was perfect for families — so much so that we decided to make this our annual destination. We love this site for its family-friendly activities: movie nights, mini golf, the s’mores center, bounce pillow, train rides, and more. Our kids had a blast last year, and this year we returned with friends who camped right beside us. However, this year's experience was a complete 180 — and unfortunately, for all the wrong reasons. Unreasonable Restrictions on EV Charging I recently purchased a Ford Lightning (electric truck), and when we arrived, I plugged it into a 110V outlet to trickle charge at around 1.2 kW/hr — less than a typical air conditioning unit or even a washer/dryer. Within minutes, we were called by the KOA “park police” demanding we unplug. I tried to discuss it with them rationally, even showing the minimal power draw through the app, but they responded with vague excuses. Honestly, 110V is 110V. If their electrical infrastructure can’t handle that, they need to have a licensed electrician take a serious look at it — not blame guests trying to keep up with the times. Other campgrounds, like Thousand Trails and the KOA in Lynden, WA, have been more than accommodating, even providing a 50A cord to fast charge. Over-Policing Ruined the Vibe Throughout our trip, it felt like we were constantly being policed. From how we parked scooters to how far someone’s vehicle was from the store — the enforcement was excessive and frankly unnecessary. I parked my small scooter neatly off to the side of the store, not in anyone’s way, only to be barked at to move it to a bike rack. Another night, a couple parked near the store (well out of anyone’s way, and late in the evening), only to be told to move their car back a tow hitch’s length. Really? This kind of nitpicking isn’t hospitality — it’s harassment. Kids Can’t Even Be Kids My 6-year-old daughter set up a small table at our site with her 3D printed toys — cute little dragons and keychains — just for fun. Staff shut her down, saying no selling allowed. Other campgrounds not only allowed this but actually supported it. One even bought one of her creations! It was disheartening to see a child’s joy get crushed over a rule that doesn’t align with what family camping should feel like. Speed Enforcement Hypocrisy They’re adamant about the 5 MPH speed limit — and I support that for safety. But they took it to another level by stopping kids in power wheels that don’t even hit 5 MPH, while they themselves were flying around in golf carts and KOA vehicles. If safety is truly the concern, the example should start with staff. All in all, this trip felt more like being monitored at work than enjoying a relaxing vacation. Last year, we left here planning to make this our annual getaway. This year, we’re leaving with a bitter taste, and won’t be back unless significant changes are made. The world is going green — and it’s time campgrounds like this one catch up and adopt a more welcoming and supportive attitude. — A disappointed...
Read moreGreat location so convenient to all of the areas listed Astoria Warrington Seaside, Cannon Beach even right across that big old beautiful bridge into Washington and all the way down to Tillamook. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the Pacific Northwest, this is the place to be. Elk travel through the park constantly It’s directly across from Fort Steven State Park, which has access to the beach you can drive on the beach, definitely check your tide schedule. You don’t wanna get stuck out there. There’s some awesome fishing if you’re not a local get your fishing license and get all the amendments and add-ons that you can because you were gonna want a salmon fish you’re gonna wanna fish in the river, which you can absolutely do from the Fort Stevens point you can fish the river from what’s known as by the locals as Coffee Beach. The KOA has a wonderful rec center for the kids. There is so much to do nightly activities, dance parties, karaoke games all day tie-dye you name it they’ve got it. They got only one camp store, but to the second store by the pool is open seasonally and it is epic fun ice cream, mini donuts, all kinds of super cool things and some pool supplies because it is right there by the pool. The resort store in the front by the highway has more food options gift all area wine camping needs RV needs and so much more they do sell ice and firewood. Not only at the main camp store, but they sell ice and firewood at the small store and at the shack where you can rent bikes. The wheelhouse laundry located up at the highway is open 24 hours a day locals can use it so make sure not to leave your laundry unattended because you don’t want to go missing. The one inside the resort is key coded with a code pad that you will need to get the code when you check in and they will not give it to you unless you are staying at the resort so there is no one from the State Park that will be using the laundry room or bath house is inside of the resort. there are many different sites types to choose from so make sure you were upfront about the length of your RV and do not air small if anything tell him you’re 5 feet longer than you are so that way you don’t get a tight spot where you can’t fit because there might not be room for your tow vehicle or your toad. Or heaven forbid part of your RV might actually stick out into the road. Different site types have different amenities with them. Some of them are very bare, wooded camping sites, even some of the tent sites in the woods. All the way up to the sites that have the cement patios and the big chunky wood furniture and barbecue pits. You can definitely find a way you’d like to campat this KOA. There’s so much for the kids to do nobody ever realizes that you really don’t need to go out of the resort to have an awesome time. write down the street in old town downtown Hammond there is the cutest little coffee cart so if you’re looking for something more than standard Keurig coffee, they are definitely your go to spot. They also have a stamp card that you can earn free coffee and believe me it only took us a couple of days to get to that point once we found them...
Read morecampsites for RVs are too close together and close to the road. Our son and his friend almost got run over in his tent by an ATUV (mule) at 1:30 am that had been stolen from maintenance by one of the campers. This alone is bad however, I will go on to the next complaints.
The showers were dirty and not very accommodating as there were not enough hooks to hang towels and clothes (only one hook in the campsite showers and none in the clubhouse showers) and only a small bench to put stuff on to keep off of the very wet floor. The floor drains did not drain fast enough so there were puddles and I could hear one of the moms yelling at her kid for letting his towel get soaked from touching the floor.
Crowded hot tubs filled with parents and their kids in swimming diapers right up until closing. It was dirty, loud, and practically inaccessible every night we were there - five nights! Even our teenagers could not enjoy the indoor pool or the hot tubs. They need to have adult pool and hot tub hours from 8-10pm for the older teens and adults to enjoy and they should not allow kids still in diapers or even under the age of 10 in the hot tub. It was cold and raining most of the time we were there so it came down to one pool. We had hoped to use the amenities since we pay more when we camp with KOA but while the property looks nice, it was pretty slummy.
THERE IS NO WIFI! One of the amenities I needed to do my work while on MY SON'S vacation since I own a business and I like to listen to my music through Pandora while I cook, have meals, and play board games on our camps. We were either in a dead zone where they put us or they are so overwhelmed with too many campers using the limited WiFi.
Another KOA perk is that you get 10% purchases in their store - ice, wood, beverages, snacks, and merchandise but on our last day as we were checking out, we picked up snacks and drinks for the road trip and we were told the discount only applies for members who are staying the night. We had just spent 5 nights, one of them terrifying having narrowly escaped losing our son to a stolen maintenance vehicle that could have crushed him to death as he slept in his tent. You would think they would extend the measly 10% up until you drive off the premises!
This was our second year returning to this KOA, last year we were stuck in a corner up against the backyard fence of a residence so we asked for a roomier spot but it was not only NOT good enough, it turned out to be quite dangerous if you have a tent and a trailer because of where they put the fire ring. The only spot for our son's tent was close to the road and he could have been crushed by the stolen ATUV that crossed through our site and crashed into our neighbors rig.
This place is dirty, dangerous, and full of too many screaming kids taking over the hot tubs and pools during prime adult time. I wish we could...
