It's a good place to go on an easy hike. I gave it 4 stars because it's close by and relatively relaxing.

A few things made me take off a star. The trails are a bit difficult to navigate because there's really no dependable trail map. I usually hike out and back to prevent getting lost. Or you can follow the blue blazes and hike the perimeter.

Look out because there is horse manure everywhere! You really have to watch your step. You also might have to share a trail with a mountain bike, so be alert so you can move off the trail.

Drainage for rainwater is non existent so there's a lot of stagnant standing water. The streams are not streaming at all. I wouldn't go there during the summer because mosquitoes would be terrible!

Overall it's okay, but there are much better trails with more beautiful scenery just another...

Hiking here is great! A great quick hike for the whole family. We like the dark blue marked parameter trail, which is about two miles and goes through lots of different types of terrain, but there is a trail for everyone. You cross a creek several times. Great in spring, summer, and fall. Some reviews seem to say it's hard to follow, but we've never had that experience. We find it really well maintained. Do tick check when...

A huge chunk of the park has been clearcut, and the harvested trees were sold to a commercial endeavor. So, if you like visiting an ecological ruin that is dominated by dead tree stumps and thin weeds, you should make Whitney State Forest your hiking destination!

But, fear not, there's a disclaimer sign posted that clearly indicates that the park will be good as new in about 60...

The trails are pretty good, some major erosion in the steeper areas going down to small creeks, it has limited parking. We have gone a few times, but arrived today (09/02/23) and it was closed for forest harvesting. It said to check the website, it said nothing about it being closed from early August to late September. What a bummer.

My husband got stung multiple times by bald faced hornets in the parking lot last weekend. The nest had fallen from a tree between the two signs. We went back to look for his glasses that he dropped and the hornets are already rebuilding in the tree above the fallen nest. This has been reported via a phone message.
