Rented a boat for 4 hours and caught 45 bluegill. What a fun day. Used just the grubs from their vending machine with a tiny hook and a bobber just past the third pier in between the island and narrow passage to the shallow end of the lake. In hindsight 45 was too many to eat for two people. We only needed 20 for dinner. But never eating bluegill before, we didn’t know how many we should catch. Oh and by the way we only bought 2 containers of grubs. They were around $3.75 a piece I think but don’t hold me to that. Correct me if I’m wrong. The boat cost $45 for the 4 hours (I think). We could have stopped at two hours for cheaper but we were laughing so hard catching all these fish we couldn’t stop. The guys on the pier were jealous and asked us how we were doing it. They ran up to grab some grubs right away then they started picking em too just not as fast since they didn’t have a boat. Oh…ask them for an anchor, they apparently tend to forget if you don’t ask for one. Lol. I’ve been coming here for decades and now they have archery for many many people. Campgrounds. Ski hill. At least 3-4 lakes to fish. I didn’t see grills but I wasn’t looking too hard for them but did see hot coal disposal cans. Kayaking, canoeing, paddle boats, row boats. Friendly staff that gave us pointers and nice conversation. Even a volunteer cleaning up the property had nice conversation with him. Gave us pointers where to find pike even though we ended up just fishing...
Read moreSnow Tubing I am writing this review only for snow tubing area of the forest preserve with some pros and cones
Pros It's a great place for snowbtubing Proper arrangement 10$ tube to enjoy all day Which is economically good Staff is very cooperative *Firepit is awesome addition to get energy and warmth for next slide Hill has enjoyable height Staff is following all protocols in recent days to protect covid 19 spread.
Cones 1hr and 53 min wait time in the line before getting tube Tubes should be given with time limitation so that every one would be able to enjoy Unless someone gets tires and return the tube the next person in line won't be able to get in which was tiring for parents along with kids Management could amend regulations during covid time this year *50 people limit should also have the time limit anyways a very few people have that much courage to climb 800ft hill in snow more than 4 times I guess. Snow was becoming slushy from few spots which was keeping the tude stuck in the middle of the way.
Precautions: Proper winter attire Warmers gloves hats show jackets and proper SNOWSHOES Kids Should have eaten properly because the wait time is long and hill climb can be tiring for them. I would recommend after each slide warm a little bit and than go for other one. One tube cab adjust a small child and parent easily. It is fun especially in...
Read moreWhen one of our friends suggested this forrest preserve we couldn’t wait to pay this wonderful place a visit.
Too many activities to do around here for children as well as for adults, too many different picnic shelters, too many trails to go hiking/biking, too many small & big parking lots to park the car, One decent size lake for boating rentals, kayaking, fishing, or just chilling out with friends/family.
Coming to the boat rentals— it's $20 (1-hour) for 4 people if you rent a paddleboat.
Kayaks for singles & doubles available to rent at $10-15. You can bring your kayaks too.
Some of the areas in the preserve are quite peaceful, so we looked around for a bit & finally parked at the north shelter. We spent about a couple of hours here, sitting under a shaded tree, spending some peaceful time.
Note- If you are coming here during spring/summer, a bug spray is highly recommended, or it's gonna be difficult.
I’d say—It's a great weekend getaway without having to leave the town. Bringing a good book if coming alone to just sit relax...
