I was a first time visitor to Natural Land’s Crow’s Nest Preserve on Sunday June 9, 2019. The visitor center was closed which was no surprise but the uni-sex restroom was open. I grabbed a trail map from the display and decided to hike the yellow-marked Creek & Chief's Grove Trail which is listed at 2.5 miles. The low areas were quite muddy. The higher parts of the trail go around corn fields. I didn’t see any wildlife other than a few butterflies and dragonflies. I saw a farmer spraying the cornfield which was the only wildlife I was able to observe. The hike took about two hours in the intense sun. I found that the trail was quite boring. I ended up only took a few pictures. The high feathery cirrus clouds in the crisp blue sky were the highlight of the trip. On some trails horses are allowed. No bikes are allowed.    Read moreThis is truly a wonderful preserve. There are over 600 acres of forests, farmland, and wetlands. This park has a visitor center with bathrooms and a butterfly garden out front. The trails through the forested areas have a great variety of trees and terrain from dry rocky forest to wetland forest. In the forest you can see oak ash, tulip, hickory, beech, maple and black gum trees. The farms produce corn, hay and wheat. The number of birds you can hear and see is amazing. The new bridge built May 2021 as Austin Chamber's Eagle Scout Project and the addition of drainage rocks has greatly improved access to Chief's Grove even after heavy rain. You can really enjoy the peace of nature hereas this preserve does not suffer from overuse like Stroud, ChesLen,Binky Lee...

Many paths run alongside or through farm fields. There is a borrow a book nook. I walk my dog there frequently;...
