I was a first time visitor to Natural Land’s Crow’s Nest Preserve on Sunday June 9, 2019. The visitor center was closed which was no surprise but the uni-sex restroom was open. I grabbed a trail map from the display and decided to hike the yellow-marked Creek & Chief's Grove Trail which is listed at 2.5 miles. The low areas were quite muddy. The higher parts of the trail go around corn fields. I didn’t see any wildlife other than a few butterflies and dragonflies. I saw a farmer spraying the cornfield which was the only wildlife I was able to observe. The hike took about two hours in the intense sun. I found that the trail was quite boring. I ended up only took a few pictures. The high feathery cirrus clouds in the crisp blue sky were the highlight of the trip. On some trails horses are allowed. No bikes are allowed. There is a small but ample parking lot. The hours are dusk to dawn. Be aware of the constent gunfire from the nearby gun club. Desturbs the...

This is truly a wonderful preserve. There are over 600 acres of forests, farmland, and wetlands. This park has a visitor center with bathrooms and a butterfly garden out front. The trails through the forested areas have a great variety of trees and terrain from dry rocky forest to wetland forest. In the forest you can see oak ash, tulip, hickory, beech, maple and black gum trees. The farms produce corn, hay and wheat. The number of birds you can hear and see is amazing. The new bridge built May 2021 as Austin Chamber's Eagle Scout Project and the addition of drainage rocks has greatly improved access to Chief's Grove even after heavy rain. You can really enjoy the peace of nature hereas this preserve does not suffer from overuse like Stroud, ChesLen,Binky Lee...

A great place to walk, and much bigger than first appears. They cut the grass in broad pathways, and provide raised wood boards in wet areas. The parts that run alongside French Creek are subject to Spring flooding up to 1.5’ over the path. The Crows Nest is a small circular wooded area in the middle of a cornfield—neat! Many paths run alongside or through farm fields. There is a borrow a book nook. I walk my dog there frequently;...

A fantastic area to hike and enjoy the outdoors. The visitor center was closed. We hiked the Creek Trail which is a 2.5 mile loop. With all of the recent rain, the trail was wet and muddy in some places. The trails are well maintained and grass was recently cut. Natural Lands is doing a great job in acquiring land and making it available for the public to enjoy.

Another one of Natural Lands treasures. Well marked, with diverse landscape. Walk across creeks and open fields. Crows Nest also had a book box and two chairs to sit and take in the sights, Actually there are many seats to take in the sights. If you take your dog and use a poo bag, I didn’t not see any trash cans, so be prepared to pack the poo bag out.
