Great park for hiking. Has so much parking space for its size of a park, something to be very appreciative of. The Falling Waters (Blue, not Turqoise) Trail was really nice. The waterfalls were cool. It's not too difficult of a trail, but there is one area where you have to ascend/descend the slanted face of a rock.
I like how you can do a loop trail starting from one end of the main parking spaces, and then come out the other end of the big, central parking area.
The meadows are cool. You can see meadows on the Upland Meadows (Orange) Trail, as well as crossing the dam to look at The Lodge (they have events there sometimes, so make sure to be respectful). The Loree Chapel is also a cool visit to see an outdoor church setup.
The overlook was pretty good, too. Not a lot of space on the rocks, but still a great view for not too steep of a hike.
I recommend downloading/printing thr map for this park at morrisparks.net, it's pretty handy and gives a good layout of the park.
Oh and one more thing, I wouldnt go out of your way to visit the Northwest section of the park (North of East Springtown Rd, near Electric Brook and Kohler Pond). There's not much to see, it's mainly flat and occasionally muddy, and you can't see the pond from the trail anyway. I guess the trail here is mainly just to connect to the Highlands Trail and the Patriot's Path.
Also, for a park that has lots of picnic tables, a boathouse, lodge, and gazebo/sheltered picnic area, I was kind of surprised to see that the only restroom for the public was a porta-potty in the corner of a parking lot. ...
Read moreGood half day trip for a family outing. Parking is abundant, and easy to find space even on a busy day. I had some difficulty finding the hike from the parking (hint - starts at the end of the lake / pond), but once you find it, its an easy path to start with. The most popular hike leads to a waterfall so expect a continuous stream of visitors on a weekend. The hike starts of easy, then gets a bit rocky, eventually leads to a tricky area which might need you to be a bit nimble to navigate. I did find a nice ledge to sit on with my feet in the water and enjoy the sight of a few people grinding their backsides on their way down the path (I know, wasn't nice of me but just couldn't resist).
Found a lot of kids in swim suits / shorts making the most of the small waterfall. Didn't think the water was very clean but they didn't seem to mind. (I did notice a slight smell in the water closer to the damn near the start of the hike - so you might like to consider a nice shower when you get home).
Covid note - make sure you carry a mask, most of the path is rather narrow and you might be breathing into a...
Read moreLarge open park with plenty of parking. Baseball field, picnic areas (covered/uncovered), trails, small lakeside beach area and waterfalls. First if you are coming for the waterfalls head down to the lake and follow trail to the left. We went up and around the mountain (hill) and then down to the waterfalls. The area is very rocky and I Would recommend good hiking shoes that will protect/cushion all the rocks you will step on. The waterfall trail is filled with larger rocks than the hill trail and would not be good if you don't want to have large steps up and down while hiking. Trails are marked with painted squares on trees you just need to look for them. With all the leaves when we went it can be difficult to make out the trail if not looking for the tree markers. Overall enjoyable day trip and especially with the...
