Although we caught nothing and had zero bites, we did enjoy the lake. Our fishing buddies were marking fish on their depth finder but far as we know they only reeled I'm one burbot. It was gorgeous at sunset. once we decided to leave, the fog set in pretty densely and we became disoriented a bit. That caused us to spend an extra 25 minutes on the ice trying to navigate the many sled paths. CAUTION: make sure you know how to get off the ice in a timely manner or bring emergency gear. My feet were freezing and my patience was low. We eventually made it but the people we left on the ice had beat us to the launch and up the hill. I love paddling this lake in the warmer months but I have yet to catch a fish. I've been left slightly disappointed with each attempt but I know there are fish here. If not then, the sights are...
Read moreWent camping here this past weekend and it was really nice! Bigger than expected and had several fingers to explore and play on. Had two camp sites you can paddle to easily, ~1/2 mile away to the right of the boat ramp. The road down to the ramp was tight and windy and not a lot of parking available so some people had to park over a mile away on the road and walk back. If you take a boat, there is another campsite near an abandoned shack (kinda creepy) and mud hole. It was over two miles from the ramp but our favorite of them all. Caught crawdads, snorkeled, fed minos, and played in the bay. Not a single house in view! Had a tree fall closer than comfort so be wary, but it has the easiest entrance to the campsite than any other. All sites are small, two small tent max or several...
Read moreBead Lake is quiet, tucked away in the hills north of Newport, WA. There is a boat ramp and a trailhead. A fee of $5 is charged to register and park with a separate parking lot for hikers so they do not take up the small parking lot reserved for trucks and trailers. The lake is partially surrounded by cabins, but the second half is uninhabited and wild. The water is a beautiful, deep blue-green. The hiking trail is 10 miles out and back along one side of the lake. It is recommended that you are bear aware and carry bear spray, make noise, and educate yourself on the differences between bear species and how to handle...
