It's "AuNaturale," so there's no color coordinated flower beds or show stoppig evergreens or willows... It literally is made of all that's natural around here, so it's quite rustic but has a peacefully natural beauty in a dry sort of way.
It has paths and path maps, sitting benches, information boards, and Smoker Marchand works of art.
There's plenty of parking as this isn't a really busy place. However, the bathrooms, on the other hand, look as if they do get pretty busy. As is evident by how trashy they look. With pieces of TP strewn All over, and the walls are heavily covered with graffiti that no one has bothered to take care of (which is a shame considering how much went into creating this place...!)
Now the grounds themselves.... They were well maintained (on this last visit, at least). I don't recall seeing trash laying around (like 1 would expect after seeing their outhouse/bathrooms.)
Because it is so natural, I would recommend visiting in the cooler hrs of the day as it can get very hot (without the an made shade from huge willows) Given the right conditions (and better maintained restrooms), this can be a very informative and nice "day-outing," kind of place to go.
Lastly... the people who use this as a quick pet stopping place along the road they're traveling and don't pick up after them are just rude, awful people. So even though it's "natural," perhaps a pet station or 2 would help those "less prepared" to clean up after their pets... (maybe be a little more thoughful...?) Just a thought, because, No. Pet stations, trash cans, paved parking, benches, and art fgures aren't natural either, but they do help bring a little reality to all...
Read moreVisited 03/31/21. Plants just starting to break buds. The resin of willows & cottonwoods was heavy. Lots of places to sit and listen. We were there midday and not good birding time. Saw happy White-crown sparrows, Belted kingfisher, robins. Keep looking up & toward the cliffs across the road for Golden Eagle, ravens, Turkey vulture. Violet-green swallow zipped by in the parking lot.
The metal artwork was fabulous. Some of the interpretative displays need an upgrade.
Pack your lunch and enjoy.
If you depart back to Chelan, shortly after the hairpin turn, watch for Bighorn Sheep. We got great views at the 1st car pull out. They need a wildlife bridge to the river. Lots of $$$ in Chelan County,...
