Visited Pend D-Oreille refuge in mid-September 2019. Started with driving the auto tour loop counter-clockwise. The road on the west side was in good condition and wide. The turn to head north is poorly signed, the refuge would get 5 stars if hadn't missed the turn. Heading north the road was less traveled and more narrow. Great, mostly flat and graveled for wheelchair accessibility, educational trail to McDonnell Lake. Recommend vault restroom on the trail; one at the parking area was almost unusable! Great trail for kids, bird viewing and possible wildlife sightings! There's a viewing cabin and picnic table at the lake. Horse...

This was a beautiful place, expansive, not overcrowded or hard to find. Also, they've got one of the best maps I've seen yet, made safe exploration efficient and amazing!

Beautiful area with well maintained dirt roads. Most of it is probably accessible by 2 wheel drive. A lot of history with the old logging roads and cabins.
