Picturesque drive up Le Clerc along the river. Keep your eyes peeled for buffalo (don't worry, they're fenced in). The hike up to the caves is short, but might be a little steep for the elderly or very young. In July there are ripe berries to sample on the way up. The large cave is really cool! Rich history there. I wish people would not carve into the walls: the act is disrespectful and immature. If you want to immortalize your visit, take a picture of yourself and share it to your friends on social media. The rest of us don't care that you were there. The kids love to climb the big boulders near the parking area. The vault toilets are as to be expected. A couple of picnic tables under the pavilion make a nice place to chill and snack. Both I & another in our group are physically disabled & we were both able to make it to the top of the trail without issue. That was awesome, because the lake view from inside the grotto was worth the walk. It was awe inspiring to think of how the area looked & was used in the past. Right off the highway with a very short walk up to the grotto, this is an ideal spot to stop and stretch your legs. Has a very pretty view of the river and the surrounding woods are lovely.
