Mill Creek and Bennington Lake Recreation Area — Attraction in Washington

A pleasant place for a walk, run or mountain bike ride, especially if you want to avoid pavement. (There's a nice paved trail as well). While I meet a fair amount of people on sunny weekends, it can be quite sparse on weekdays or when the weather isn't perfect. The sunsets can be amazing, and the views of the mountains are gorgeous. This is under utilized, but it was cool and overcast when I went. It's easy to find, access, and exit if you're using a map or app the first time. There's only parking for about 12-15 vehicles. The boat ramp and water level rec area is closed due to low water level. It's popular for walking, running, and dog walking. It's also clear that many pet owners do not clean up after their animals. Best place to go for hiking close to Walla Walla. Paved and gravel bike paths on levees, dam, and around lake. Rooks Park located near end of North side levee. Good place to see animals. Ducks, geese, otters and mink (rarely), white pelicans, kingfishers, hawks, egrets, herons, muskrat, songbirds. Beautiful scenery looking towards Vancycle ridge and into the Blue Mountains.
