I would have given this place a much higher review, because yes the trails are wonderful and well maintained. The trailhead is kept up on. Its normally a beautiful place to spend the afternoon enjoying nature and some peace and quiet. But today has changed my mind completely the tranquillity of this place has been ruined. I travel around in an r.v. i am not a bum, i am not without an income, i have chosen to be mobile and i have that right. My r.v. is not fancy, but it is not an eyesore either. I practice responsible r.v. rules. For example, i dont dump my tanks if im not at a dump station, and i discard my garbage in the proper receptacles, not filling the local gas stations bins or littering or illegal dumping. Today i got to the park, it was hot and i was tired, i chose to take a nap before i headed out on a nature walk, hoping it would cool off a little and be a more enjoyable, comfortable walk. I had been parked there for an hour maybe 1.5 but not yet 2 hours. I started to wake up when there was a knock on the door. It was some person. I'm not sure how exactly he is connected to the park, but he was not law enforcement or any form of authority figure. I open the door, to him aggressively telling me i have to leave, "This is a public park not a public parking spot", he wouldnt even allow me to express that i was a trail walker and not some transient. His prejudice, lack of communication skills, and rude demeanor are whats left of a beautiful place. I had been there less than two hours and was labled and judged and evicted from a public place. I have no other vehicle so does that mean im not allowed to enjoy public parks, because i would have to park my rv there. Are all r.v.'s banned from this place or is it just older rvs that aren't welcome, or just mine. To the man that knocked on my dor today, wearing a Jesus loves you T-shirt. You had no right to judge me, you should have listened and talked with me. But i can be the better person im ok with that. Im glad i dont have to be a jerk for a living. Sorry that was what you...
Read moreMultiple trails, short and long. But make sure you've got GPS and/or a Trail app, water, and snacks! My husband and I hiked through this park several times, without issue. Took my daughter and 2 nephews today, and we wound-up pretty lost. Someone on the trails told us, "all the trails connect back to the starting point eventually." Nope. Our 2-hour, 2-3 mile (planned) walk turned into 6.6 miles and 3.75 hours. We hit a dead end and had to walk back the way we walked in. Not the end of the world, but I was definitely feeling my bad knee & my low blood sugar and very grateful I had water. So maybe map it out on your phone before you head-in. ...
Read moreI hike at this park multiple times per week and never get tired of it. It's very peaceful with lots to see. There are some steep and uneven trails due to roots and natural barriers.
The only issue I have is with some pet owners. Quite a few people don't clean up after their pets and many let their dogs off leash. Dogs have run up on us (and our dogs). Even if the owner is able to recall them, many times it's after they have ran at and touched/jumped on someone/a dog. If you, your kids or your pets are afraid or reactive to dogs, I would...
