My girlfriend and I stopped into Palouse winery on our first visit to Vashon Island. Owners George and Linda greeted us and after an hour of amazing wine and genuine conversation we felt at home. We joined their wine club not just because they put their all into their artisan wines but because we felt such a deep connection we wanted to support. Now a year later, we are lucky enough to get hugs of embrace every time we come by for tastings and I tell all my friends that George is the type of guy I want to be when I'm older!
I stopped by when George and Linda were pressing fresh grapes one day and they both had grapes all over their clothes and Linda was cleaning all the equipment they used that day. George waves me over and whispers to me "Mario, I am so lucky to have her (Linda) she works so hard." Thats when I realized how their wine is authentic as their character. Everything is done by hand and with more love than you can fit into a bottle.
Palouse is open Saturday and Sunday for tastings. If you are lucky enough Sarah will be there ready to walk you through the tasting flight. Her knowledge, storytelling, and radio quality voice will take you on a journey with each bottle you taste. She is so captivating you will totally loose track of time and before you know it your tasting is over and you will want to come again on Sunday to do the tasting all over again!
So if you are new to Vashon, taking a weekend trip, or have lived on the island for sometime...Palouse is an island treasure that you have to put at the top of your list. You will be so...
Read moreNot for serious wine people. There are two kinds of wine people: the image people and the ones who love it. This is all mirrored sunglasses, $16 glasses (are we in Manhattan?) and not welcoming if you’re not a wine club member. (We were chased from the garden by someone wearing a fedora! It’s like a joke about hipster customer service!) The garden was lush, but there’s weirdly a hot tub and a toy-riddled kids sandbox in it. You’re not even allowed to spend more than an hour on the street side if you’re not a member. What about this makes me want to be a member? The wine was good enough, but there’s more delicious wine in the region/world than your liver can handle. Do yourself a favor and get a good bottle of DOC or Walla Walla wine at the grocery store and enjoy it on the beach. Savor it calmly and in the joyful spirit of generosity that the wine gods intended.
Oh I will also note that there is a lot of signage and performance about masks - even though you are outside and going to take them off anyway - but no vaccine requirement. As a health care provider, that’s one more anti-evidence-based splinter in...
Read more(I visited in September 2021, but only got around to writing a review now - things may have changed since then.) We tried a tasting of their wines. Pours were inconsistent (they didn't use a measured pourer) and we heard tables around us complaining about this as well. 6 1 oz pours for $25 isn't great. They didn't offer much explanation about the wines, but to be fair, they looked pretty busy at the time (there were two workers to look after several groups of people). They didn't offer water unless you explicitly asked. Some of their wines are only available to their wine club, instead of just pricing them higher for non-club members. Overall, I felt like a dispensable customer, maybe because I'm a tourist, but I wouldn't go back there. The reason the score isn't lower is because the wines were actually pretty good - very nice noses on all of them, and most were acidic, food wines. So if you can find them in stores, I recommend giving them a try. Otherwise, I recommend passing.
Service was nice (in demeanor) but they don't have a sense of good...
