The gorge is GORGEOUS! And they have flushing airplane style porta potties in the main stage area. Thats cool.
It took almost 4 hours to get in the day before the show started. Live Nation owning it is not ideal they have ruined what it used to be. The food is fair style food served cold uncooked and 19-30$ - so many people got food poisoning. Thank god i brought all my own food.
The Security treated people like they are all criminals I had never witnessed anything like that anywhere of any event size. I had never been treated terrible for never having negative interacts with them they just blanketed that we all were terrible, I have worked in the industry and always conduct myself respectfully and understand how it is working with alcohol and at a music venue. It is a different beast, but some people were on power trips. When you contact them about charging you for a service they ended up offering for free to others, FALSE ADVERTISING- they completely ignore you. Livenation is a $grab scam. All the “kids” they have working there are mostly volunteers so seems line they don’t pay people, and if they do they don’t pay them well, they offer college credit or something. They have young people search your wallets do body searches.
Porta potties were cleanest i have ever seen, we camped in G was a great spot slept well.
Security is also young people mostly- so when you have a belligerent adult man harming people, its like some are not even equipped to wrangle belligerent man sized people, so you wait for other guards to come- does not seem so safe. I dunno it looked and seemed disorganized, and like people needed management and training- most people were either checked out and not helping- or on a power trip. Where the middle ground? Do NOT pay the 40$ plus upgrade for shuttles- they dont check wrist bands and everyone rides free. It was a nice idea the first day but then once EVERYONE RIDES FREE AND CATCHES on it voids your paid version make insane long lines. I asked for a refund and they told me to go to frontgate tickets for help. But i bought and upgrade at LN venue with LN employee, who they told me to get refund online with the gorge LN HELPDESK, and online they completely ignore you, seems like their “culture” here TREAT YOU POOR AND TAKE YOUR MONEY. I will NEVER go back to the gorge FOR THIS REASON. You can tell the locals hate people coming there , i am from the PNW and cane see that look and feel a mike away. Good thing there are way too many good options in PNW I will not be returning as its just too expensive for what you get when you can see artists you love at other non-LN OWNED spaces. The show was great and many concessions employees were nice to us in the NA slurpee stand . The camp employees are fire. Pam the security manager was the reason for many issues. You’ll know her is you see her she screams and yells. Avoid her...
Read moreI’ll start by stating I love this venue, and I’m going to continue coming. I’m just disappointed. The monetization at The Gorge is now impacting comfort and enjoyment at their shows.
The venue is gorgeous and we’ve loved every experience up to this year. The monetization is getting to extreme levels though. This year they implemented a “no personally owned law chair” policy, and require attendees to pay $21 to rent a chair for a single show, or $45 for a 3-day weekend show (Labor Day weekend). They gave no explanation for the change.
We’ve come here for the past four years, and I purchased small lawn chairs specifically to bring here due to the steep incline of the amphitheater slope. I have pre-existing back issues (like many people I’m sure) and I can sit level with proper back support with my chairs. But the chairs they rent here force me to fight my butt from sliding down all night because they aren’t designed to sit on a steep incline. There’s also no way to adjust the angle of the back rest, so for me it’s a continuous struggle, due to back issues and the fight for stability.
The only options we have now are to pay a high price to rent chairs that are uncomfortable, or to bring stadium seats that are basically small pads with back support and sit directly on the ground. Some people commented that The Gorge prohibits those as well, but we got ours in as long as “they didn’t have metal in them”.
It’s unfortunate that the venue has gone to this length to extract this additional fee from the people who already pay high prices to attend. I’d rather they increased their ticket prices by $21 and allow us to still bring our own chairs… I honestly don’t think I’d have even noticed the ticket increase if they’d done that.
The “metal” comment from security at the gate made me think the change had to do with “safety”, but that is a ridiculous reason because their chairs are large, bulky and made of metal/aluminum framing like most other lawn chairs.
The few people I spoke to in line to enter and around us in our seating area only had poor opinions of this change.
This might be an heavy-handed star review for this issue, but I feel that this is just a bridge too far for The Gorge to have taken. I understand that inflation impacts everything, and the venue has to make money. But this change directly impacts people’s comfort and enjoyment at their shows and it is...
Read morePros: The venue itself is amazing, gorgeous views. We arrived relatively early for the Outlaw Music Festival and expected to wait in line. Parking situation was well-organized. Plenty of outhouses outside and inside the venue without long waits. Outhouses were clean & there were stations with running water/soap. Always a bonus.
Hope that they keep the parking free. We did leave a little early because we were absolutely exhausted, so showing up a bit early & leaving a little early=pretty simple & straightforward parking experience.
You can bring an empty water bottle to fill up at one of the water stations. You can also bring chairs, but must follow their guidelines (we have rolled up Crazy Creek camp chairs to sit directly on the ground which worked great). Just make sure to read the directions on website although they are somewhat confusing. Security will just have you unroll any blankets or (rollable/foldable) chairs. We brought snacks in a gallon ziplock which was ok per website rules. Those basics are necessary at an outside venue!
Grass/general admission has good views. There is very little shade, so just be prepared if in general admission. I would not want to be in the actual "seating" area on the asphalt! Too hot. Even with a huge crowd, the hill/grass has plenty of space.
Billy Strings was incredible, sound was excellent.
Cons: The "rental" lawn chairs the venue rents are too high off the ground! Fortunately we picked seating behind another group on a blanket on the grass, but the lawn chairs might obstruct your view in some areas. They should either a) have a section just for those or b) get lower chairs!
"High wind warning" was confusing. Felt like a mild breeze, although to be fair maybe it was stronger on stage. Unfortunately Bob Dylan's set was cut very short. I get that weather happens at an outside venue but a) ZERO communication with what was going on and b) they seemed ill-prepared to deal with a little wind & (light) rain. We were going to leave after like 2 hours, and finally Willie & Fam came on stage but it seemed to take an unnecessary amount of time & just seemed disorganized in general.
Volunteers? I mean, this is a 20,000 person venue, surely Live Nation can afford to pay people for their work especially with the price of...
