So beautiful, love the area - but had a bad camping experience. My friends and I have camped here a few times, but this last weekend made us question whether or not we’ll come back. Basically, it’s Labor Day weekend and all sites were full and at 2:30am, 3 sites had sprinklers go off. All sites were tent campers and we had a friend hammock camping - he was out of a place to sleep since all his things were soaked. And one of our tents were full of water. Sprinklers went off for 30 minutes before the ranger turned them off and it took someone yelling at him before he did it. Park ranger never came to apologize or even check on us, he just eventually turned off the sprinklers but that’s it. Disappointed because he seemed nice but he couldn’t even come down to the sites to apologize or even offer some sort of refund since we paid $25 for one night. Not to mention all our stuff and the general site was drowned in water.
And don’t even get me started on the bathrooms. They are disgusting and horrible smell. I normally can handle terrible smells and I don’t have a weak stomach, but I literally threw up just walking up the trail to the bathroom and then again when I opened the bathroom door. I couldn’t even use the restroom it was so bad. At points the bathroom smell even filled our campsite that was on the other side of the camp ground.
Overall, pretty memorable experience - but not...
Read moreBeen here several times for day use, but camped here for the first time last night. I was sad to drive up and see that they have a blanket NO CAMPFIRES rule that runs June 10th to October 10th. You are allowed to use briquettes in their in-ground fire pits, which do have an attached grilling spot, or gas fueled grills. I knew later in the summer as things dry out there is a potential for more burn bans, but I didn't expect to see it this early. The spots are a little smaller than other places I've camped so your neighbors are a bit closer than I like, but it was still fairly quiet and peaceful. A couple trains ran by during our stay, one in the early evening and another pretty late. They weren't very long, but maybe something to keep in mind if you are a light sleeper. Overall we would...
Read moreWe visited at the end of May, just before the road construction. We brought our dogs which limited us a bit seeing many trails do not allow dogs. We drove on Going to the Sun rd and it was very bumpy due to the rough grading for the upcoming road construction. A fire took out a lot of trees that surround the are viewable near west glacier. I didn’t mind but I know the view would be a lot better if there were more trees. There were hardly any mosquitoes and the crowds weren’t bad. We didn’t stay for a long period of time seeing we had dogs but we enjoyed the views, McDonald Lodge, and the road trip. I wouldn’t recommend a campground if you don’t like crowds. We took Hwy 37 to 93...
