Sky Tavern is an amazing program designed for parents who want to have time with family and friends in a safe, family-friendly environment. Parents volunteer two hours of their time to help keep the cost of the program as a reasonable, affordable opportunity for the community. The ski and snowboard clinics are taught by fully certified instructors who share their passion for the slopes. Adult lessons are offered twice a day each weekend as a part of the program, which are included as part of volunteering. There are women's clinics taught by women for women who want ski or snowboard. First-time or need to improve their skills. There is a Sky Kids offering for the younger generation. 4 to 6 years of age. Parents do not teach their own children. There is a Grommets group for the young snowboard members. There are so many parents watching over the children that it is a safe place.
The ski race program is outstanding for those youngsters who have the skills and ability to ski through gates and improve. There is also an adaptive program for those who have challenged abilities. The teachers are so patient and understanding with the members. There is ski and snowboard rental, repair, and maintenance on-site, so the equipment is available for members. The children have such a fun time, meeting new friends and learning lifetime skills. Adults also enjoy and support Sky Tavern. Some for decades and generations. This program has been operating since 1948 , and it continues to grow. Snowmaking has been added, which improves the start date. The grooming is excellent for a small resort. And the Ski Patrol is outstanding, excellent care if you require it. It is truly an amazing experience for families to enjoy precious time with each other, sharing their experiences and accomplishments. The special events put on during the program are wonderful. Freestyle teams have competitions. There are kids' races, adults crazy races, and a fun weekend with a pond skim. It's absolutely hilarious to watch!!! If you live in Northern Nevada or Northern California, it is available to you at an affordable rate....

This is a wonderful location to learn to Ski and Snowboard. The workshop helps anyone they can of free. The food is above par and suprisingly filling.
GOODS: This mountain is mainly used as a training spot for people learning to start skiing and snowboarding. There is also a small jump spot that has several large jumps, a few grid rails, some very small bumps, and a few spots with VERY steep down hill sections. The main hills are fairly easy to ski and are really great for teaching newer skies. The lifts are fairly quick and not too crowded for most of the days. There is a large amount of people at the very start of the day (8-9) but people spred out fast. There are two lifts, with the "harder" hill ski lift nearly always having a very short line. The mountains connect in a few ways, so I would recommend taking the ski lift with the fewest people and just skiing over to the slope you want. The main lodge is very small, but offers inexpensive food and great shop help. There isn't much sitting and you need to leave most of to your supplies in your car. However, the parking lot is right next to the lodge, so it is very easy to walk to your car.
BADS: The mountains are very small and there are fairly quick. If you are trying to learn to ski jumps and go down quicker, you can learn those skills here, but there are only a few spots. It can be hard skiing around some of the kids learning. Also, since the lodge is small, there isn't much you can buy from them if you forget anything. Finally, currently in 2021, they dont have any snowboarding equipment to rent, so you will either need to bring your own, rent from the place across the street, or find a location in Reno. They do have a good amount of ski...
Read moreIt was my first time up to sky tavern ski, I've always driven by it when going to lake Tahoe but never to actually visit the ski resort. It was nice. The staff and owners of the place so they're best to make sure that all parents put in some volunteer hours each day the children attend and that's how they keep it up and running. I didn't get to ski this time around since I thought it wasn't a good idea for me to start at the age of 35 but the instructors explained that they would give me my first lesson so I can begin teaching level one to others afterwards! I'm excited! Next weekend I'm bringing some ski's and I'm going to learn! My son who snowboards, also had the benefit of meeting an Olympic champion Lane Spina. They rode up the chair lift together and hit the snow down a mountain together! The chain then signed my son's helmet and took a picture with him. 👍 We're excited to go...
