I have camped here for 14 years, my husband since his childhood. The campsites are nice and showers. There really is no playground. A swing set with no swings and a little bus to sit in that’s caution taped off, along with a play set with slide that’s caution taped off. The staff is what I have trouble with. Not welcoming. We pulled up at 1:30. Instead of saying, “Welcome to Little River!” My hubby said, “Sorry, we’re a little early,”. The response was, “Try not to be so early next year!” Instead of being helpful, they like to sit and wait for you to do something wrong so they can drive over in their golf cart to tell you all about it. The B side’s beach was closed while we were there, so we had to pack up our cars to drive over to A side’s beach so you’d think they’d have a little leniency on parking. Nope! One guy parked in front of the chain to the entrance to the beach where there was no sign that said no parking. The parking is very small and no spots left. so Instead of going down to ask whose car it was, the worker was writing him a $100 ticket. Someone knew whose car it was and told him so he could move. Brian the recreation director seems to love his job. Very nice. Kyle that works down at the water is very nice and helpful but most seemed to just go through the motions and are not...
Read moreMostly positive.... We stayed in Cabin Marten on B loop. The cabin was great. It faced away from other sites and felt very private. Inside we were happy to find two outlets, a heater, and a small van, which was perfect for white noise, and a ceiling fan. Once inside the cabin you can't hear anything going on outside. The futon was not comfortable at all so I would suggest bringing a sleeping mat. The mattresses on the bunks were slightly better. The campground itself was very clean. There were trails to make the walk to the bathrooms quick and easy. The bathroom was recently updated though one of the toilets was not working and one of the faucets wouldn't turn off. The beach area was clean and peaceful.
The playground wasn't fancy but our 2 year old loved the swings and the little play cabin while my husband, daughter and I enjoyed using the disc golf set up. The staff doesn't seem to enjoy their jobs. No enthusiasm or warmness. But not rude.
Our biggest complaint was the road coming into the park. Even going at a snails speed, the potholes could cause serious damage to a vehicle and in some spots they were...
Read moreLittle River State Park is near Waterbury, Vermont. I checked this place out when the State had a " free state park weekend", (no charge to enter for the day). So I went in with my bike and checked it out. access is from the "History Hike" trailhead.(you get a map when you enter the park). I took Stonewall trail up the side of the mountain to Bear Lane, took a side trip out and back on Ricker Farm trail(this was a mistake, but what a nice trail! I recommend it anyway). then hook back up with the Dalley Loop trail (big doubletrack for the hikers) up a short ways to Hillfarmer. This brings you down the trail to Highbridge, which is the whole point of your ride: This trail is amazing. A Monster downhill flow trail with sexy curved berm turns, twists and turns all the way back to Dalley Loop and the parking lot. This ride may be done a few different ways, but this is the way I did it. If you really want to re-enact my day, then be sure to stop in after your ride at Stone Corral in Richmond Vt. afterwards for a fine beer and lunch....
