This is a nice National Forest Campground in the Allegany National Forest. It’s about 13 miles from Sheffield, PA which is the closest place for restock supplies at a mini mart and a Dollar General. Warren/North Warren is about 20 miles and has the Walmart and other stuff.
It has one forested loop with 26 sites, ours was number 16 and it was plenty long for our 35A and toad. We had a nice picnic table and fire ring. There are a couple of pit potties around the loop as well as a couple of water faucets. Dumpster is across from the dump station; the camp host is right at the entrance and is very visible driving through with her buggy.
If you’re looking for a large group area it has a nice area on the south side of the loop. If you’re up for hiking, the forest has a lot of opportunities. Kinzua Reservoir and the Allegany River are 21 miles northeast and can keep you busy all day. Remember you are in the PA Wilds, so don’t be surprised if a bear or raccoon makes a nocturnal visit. Besides the above two there are also foxes, coyotes, and whitetail deer. There are also plenty of birding opportunities as well.
This CG is quiet and peaceful and off the beaten path, as with most sites they are 80 to 90% tree cover, great for keeping cool but not so much for Solar and Starlink or Dish. Generators can be run in non-quiet hours. Sites are plenty far apart and they are all easy to get into.
Great forest...
Read moreHearts Content is absolutely beautiful. I suggest anybody and everybody to visit, as there are only a couple of old-growth forests left in PA. Spending time with these very old trees will do you good!
The trails are easy with a couple of different length options. A couple of minutes walk from the parking lot will take you to trees over 400 years old. There's a sufficient amount of parking, some picnic tables and even a little out house thing.
I've been here twice and already look forward to visiting again. If you're passing through or visiting the Allegheny National Forest, definitely...
Read moreA beautiful place to go for a stroll. From this immediate area you have access to the Hearts Content area, which contains old growth white pine and hemlock. The Hickory Creek Wilderness Trail is 13 miles in a loop and is only a short walk from the scenic area on a trail. Finally, the Tanbark Trail cuts across this area from Rt 62 and connects to the North Country Trail (the nation's longest hiking trail) a couple miles from...
