*EDIT -TICK INFESTED!! FOUND 3 TICKS ON MY DOG AND 1 ON ME!!! I'm going to be reviewing the Sunset Beach "Campground". Upon check-in the sign said Campground full. It is not full. It is filled at 10% capacity and we spoke to a family who was here all weekend and they said it was this empty the whole time. Pictures included to prove how empty the campground is. When we booked the campground there were very few spots available online so we picked number 55 based on the picture shown on the State Park website. The picture is not accurate. It is not paved, it is in the dirt, not level, with very low hanging branches so it is not RV suitable, even though the webpage states it is. The picnic tables and fire rings are on the wrong side of each campsite so you cannot back in if you want to be able to enjoy the picnic table and fire ring. We had to drive the RV in nose first and squeeze in between low-hanging branches and the picnic table. When we open our door we practically trip over the picnic table. On the other side of the picnic tables it is wide open but some numbskull State worker decided to put the site number post right there so you could not back into that part. We're going to try to move tomorrow and see if the State Parks workers will let us have one of the many, more suitable spots, but we won't be holding our breath. Dogs are prohibited on this beach. The walk over the sand dunes is hazardous to walk. The numbskull state workers put in round posts horizontally up and down the dunes pathway and I wouldn't be surprised if someone breaks their ankle, and I'm not exaggerating. There is no dump station at this campground and the nearest one is at New Brighton. Looks like we'll be driving to New Brighton parking lot to enjoy their...

We stumbled upon this park while looking for somewhere to tent camp while on the Pacific Coast Highway. We were hoping for on beach camping, and that was not to happen, it seems. Why? I'm not sure. There was a beach, a road down to it, even picnic tables and restrooms on one side of the dunes. Not sure why we could not pitch a tent on the beach on the other side of the dunes. We would be away from the water, out of everyone's way, and would avoid the tide. Maybe they are afraid of a tsunami (why not put up sirens then?).

The tent site that we had was ok. It was pretty unlevel, but otherwise ok. We got to drive around and pick our sites, and that was our first pick. The other sites seemed right atop one another or were already occupied, or were even more unlevel. The site was a bit expensive: we paid $55 for one night and two bundles of firewood. It might have been just California normal, but it seems that we usually pay $10 or so for a site back home. Anyway...

Bring quarters if you want to shower. Apparently "to conserve water" you have to insert quarters to get hot water (I guess that cold water is not worth conserving). I cannot recall the exact charge, but I think that it was four quarters for two minutes of hot water.

We had fun and slept kinda ok (the site was so unlevel that I awoke in a twisted pile in the corner of the tent. The staff that we interacted...

I went in November. With that being said the beach was pretty empty. But there were people there enjoying it. The water was cold. Which the Pacific Ocean usually is but what it's in the high sixties it seems to be a little bit colder at 1st period my God 1st period my guide dog had a great time in the water but seem to prefer wanting to play with everybody else while I wanted to play on the water. There were a few dogs without being on leashes. The woman in the ticket booth believe she's a park ranger said the North side of the beach is for dogs and the South side of the beach is not. She claimed that that included service animals. I don't think she understood that I have a guy dog which legally can go anywhere. But that's recited the point. Me and my friends we had a really good time It was clean other than the things that the beach decided to pause it like driftwood dried seaweed all that fun stuff. Also the sand is very fine so where it was really wet it was pretty easy to sink into so be aware of that period otherwise it's a great beach...
