Rasmussen is a lot like buying groceries at a gas station. You are paying for convenience, not quality. Only one person from our entire class passed the NCLEX. You're paying at least $5000 per quarter. There is no wait list, which is nice. There are a lot of manipulation practices. First, they claim to have a low failure rate. Which is true, but that's because people withdraw before they fail. Second, the "military grant" doesn't go to you, it goes to the government. They informed me that the government owes me, but the government doesn't pay anybody back so good luck getting it. The professors are really knowledgeable and I learned a lot but most of what they cover isn't on the tests. If you want to succeed, buy the books and use your time preparing for tests and not studying the presentations. Rasmussen has high turnover. This has caused last minute changes before the quarter starts and sometimes during the quarter and several people are using their PTO unnecessarily due to last minute changes. Lastly, they do something called item analysis. This is where they arbitrarily pick and choose what is considered an unfair question and give points back to the few students who missed the question. If they didn't do that, most people would fail. My opinion, the reason they don't use a curve instead like most reputable nursing schools is that it's a control mechanism to manipulate students into not complaining about the quality of their education. None of the credits transfer either so if you don't finish, you wasted anywhere from $5 to $50 thousand dollars in debt with nothing to show for it. Luckily, I got all of my gi bill reimbursed so it didn't cost me anything. Every single person who started in my nursing class had to retake at least one quarter. Our class started with 12 and only 3 of us graduated. 2 to my knowledge are still trying and they had to retake at least 2 quarters. Midstate is harder to get into but your chances of passing are a lot higher, they curve the tests, and are a lot more accommodating. This review isn't personal it's...
Read moreI would not recommend this "university" to my worst enemy. I watched my intelligent and driven mother struggle through each quarter as professors, deans and leadership seemingly worked against students to ensure their graduation was delayed, therefore maximizing the tuition dollars received.
I saw firsthand how students can fail a class by 1/10th of a percentage point and not be granted the right to review their exam. Meanwhile, professors conduct an "item analysis" of the questions and subjectively determine which questions are fair and will count and which ones will not. If there's a need for this practice, then there's a root issue that's not being addressed. Test students on what is taught, and teach students what they'll be tested on. This seems like it would be common sense, but when you have a for-profit institution, the practices in place exist to maximize profit, not educational success.
After countless hours, dollars and incredible stress, my mom failed her final quarter by less than a percentage point. She ultimately suffered a stress-induced medical event and is lucky to be alive, although likely permanently disabled. I don't feel the need to deter students further as I believe this school, as well as the Green Bay campus will no longer be accepting new nursing students. It's not hard to imagine why! Please do yourself a favor and stay away from educational systems listed as "for profit," because that's exactly what they're there for - profit...
Read moreThis place literally deserves zero stars. I'm shocked by their consistent mistreatment of students. I support the review below about the woman who failed her final class and ended up having a medical emergency due to the absolute stress and lack of help and care from Rasmussen University. I witnessed this place completely destroy the confidence, motivation, health, and self-esteem of a very capable person. The professors and Dean seemed to care very little. In fact, when the medical emergency occurred, it was silence from the university even though they knew the event happened. I know for a fact my university cohort/professors/dean would have reached out to me or my family if something happened to me. Rasmussen did not. They truly just don't care about the students as humans or as future healthcare professionals. I was astounded at the stories I would hear about students who were failed out of the program for missing one quiz or test question. I'm happy to hear the Wausau campus is closing so more students cannot be harmed by the god-awful services of this place. I warn any one of you to avoid attending this university at any other location. They need to be reported...
