We have been camping here for 5 years now. We LOVE it! Very family oriented! It seems to be the only place left in the world where our grandchildren can roam on their bikes and we don't have to worry! The rangers patrol continually! Our grandchildren have cell phones now, but in previous years, would carry walkie-talkies so that we could communicate. The wave pool has improved, there is only a 5 minute wait between cycles. Since Covid, you need to bring your own tubes and/or rafts. Life jackets are provided for free if needed. The annual passes are a good deal, it's 200 for a family of 4. We typically camp for a week or more at the time. It only takes 2.5 trips for the wave pool passes to pay for themselves. The passes also allows us to use the pool which is located inside the park by the activities center. Some campers complain that it costs to use the pool, however, I prefer it for the daily site rent is less than most parks and has only gone up about a dollar through the years. Also, if you plan on visiting the wavepool multiple times and/or multiple years, I highly recommend purchasing the souvenir cups from the concession stand. They are 10 bucks but then only 50 cents for refills. We have been using the same cups for 5 years! The campground is surrounded by woods, which makes for a great outdoor experience. We always see rabbits, squirrels and birds. A few years back, my husband and I saw a HUGE wild cat! He was as tall as our Labrador! (Not sure what type, much bigger than a bob cat) In the warmer months, I have seen a few snakes, while walking my dog on the trails. Please do not kill the black ones! They are called "black runners," are non poisonous and good for keeping rats and mice away! PLEASE, show your family a pic of a copperhead for they are poisonous and will bite! As a nurse practitioner, who practices in South Mississippi, the several snake bites, I have cared for through the years, have ALL been from copperheads. The good news is..I haven't heard of any deaths, and all of the local hospitals either carry anti-venom or can quickly borrow it from another hospital. So..don't let your fear of snakes keep you away! I strongly recommend spraying your jacks and tires with Raid ant and roach spray. This will prevent them from getting into your RV. There are mosquitoes but only seem to be a problem right at dusk. Certain times of the year, typically spring, knats are a BIG problem! We call them "No see mes or see me nots" however, nothing that Off spray can't handle. There is a small camp store but only open for a few hours during summer. There is a dollar general close by on Lakeshore Rd., 3 miles from the park. If you don't feel like cooking, I HIGHLY recommend the kitchen at Kent and Sue's! It's a quick stop on Lower Bay Rd, 2.6 miles away. They have breakfast with homemade biscuits, amazing boiled crawfish, po-boys, burgers, chicken strips, onion rings, fries, etc.. My favorite is an oyster po-boy, tarter instead of mayo with onion rings! They also sell propane if needed. If you are wanting a finer dining experience, take the beach road into bay st louis. My favorite restaurant since 1997, is Trapanis! Doesn't matter what you choose from the menu, it's going to be delicious!! There are also, many pubs for night life. We aren't into casinos but if that's your thing, the Silver Slipper is only 2.5 miles away! It is locally owned and operated. I have taken my MIL there in the past. The staff is amazingly friendly! Read moreToday Sunday 8/4/24 We decided to drive an hour to go enjoy twilight hour 4-6pm, some wave pool fun as a party of 4. No clouds in the sky and were able to enjoy 10 min of pool time until it clouded up, no rain, some distant rumbling that passed over in less then 5 min. Pool closes for 30 min when lightning strikes. Okay I never received notification but okay we waited the 30 min just to be sitting there wondering if they will announce something. From 4:20 pm until 5:20 we just hoped someone would open the pool up as there was no thunder, no rain, sun came through so we decided to ask if they would open the pool up again. At 5:20 we were told that they are closing for the day and not opening up. That’s $44 in their pocket for doing absolutely nothing, we asked if we could get a voucher since we were not able to use the wave pool and you are closing 30 min early, and were told that their website is old, the times are incorrect and they do not give vouchers for weather closure. So NO, I highly advice you to never purchase tickets in advance, and to not trust the hours of operation. It’s just a bunch of kids cashing in the money you gave them without it being accounted for so I also highly advice you to pay with credit card and chargeback when you were unfortunately scammed into believing they were open or they refuse to leave the area open until the time stated. And note that families travel from far, often with small children that are excited to go play on slides and in the waves just to find the place closed, where is the response from management to address these very disappointing and costly experiences. Give these people a voucher or reimbursement for goodness sake. You didn’t provide us with the use of your amenities so why not simply give people their money back? It’s simply theft if you do not give people what they paid for, isn’t it? We paid $44 cash, shouldn’t we been given a bracelet or something that would allow us in and out aside from the receipt.Worse management in operation I have encountered in a long time. Go to Baton Rouge Or Gulfport, it’s safe and you will always know when it is open or closed and the Do give vouchers for disappointing storm closure days. Don’t support this uncaring business, let them fail so ownership and management can be changed for the better. With all the negative complaints due to unexpected closures, there is not one acknowledgment from state owner/ management. That should say enough how much they...
Read moreMy husband purchased the season pass for 2021 for our family. One day, I did not have the ticket on me, but I brought two photo ID documents with me, and had my husband txt me the front and back of the tickets ( which had my name). They still did not allow me to enter the park because I "did not have tickets". I offered to give more info like address, phone number. They did not allow me to enter :(
Other places, like zoo, aquarium and Broadway never gave me a hard time like this, quite the opposite. Other places are accomodating to paying customers). I talked to the manager, Shaun F, who was useless as well.
As I was halfway to my car, "the almighty" manager said that I could enter the park, as if he was doing me such a huge favor. Unfortunately it was very unprofessional. I did not drive one hour to be be humiliated.
I understood the regular employee's lack of ability to be helpful, but the manager, Shaun F. should have been able to think common sense and solve the issue.(if that was the manager) By not allowing me to gain entrance, they called a paying customer, a liar and a thief. It is not good for business. English is my third language. I have an accent. I can't help but wonder: would they have been this unprofessional and demeaning to my 6 foot tall southern man ? My business may not bring them more than 500-800 $ /season; That may not be a big amount, but wouldn't any business aim to collect every penny possible? They don't care. They don't have to deliver quality service. They get funds.
I hope...
