My family and I LOVED the fair. I’ve been attending for 17 yrs and I have very good friends involved at the fair. Unfortunately now that it has new ownership it is horribly different.
Parking is attrocious - no walking lanes for pedestrians and we got yelled at my parking attendants to move out of the way for cars.
Then while waiting for the gates to open - my wife (pregnant with twins) and I take a seat in some benches over by some kid wagon rentals. Suddenly a staff member with a terrible outfit and fake white hair under his cap comes over to berate us and tell us the benches are for the handicap. In the moment I was focused on my 21 month old daughter who had gotten a sticker and asked to put it on her outfit. My wife acknowledged the demand of the staffer and yet he continued to repeat his demand to me until finally I got up and he told me that I “needed to acknowledge him.” We never would have been treated this way previously.
They’ve also taken the elephants away much to my little daughter’s disappointment and replaced them with port-o-potties.
Oh and be forewarned - prices for everything have shot up. Food vendors only take card now and everything has tax added. Kids rides are outrageous — $7 a person to ride a “swing” for less than 5 minutes.
Bottom line - new ownership obviously only cares about one thing = $$$$$$$.
I am all for making a profit but the drastic changes and rude staff have our family reconsidering our support of this once beloved...
Read moreMy family and I enjoyed the fair and it's many attractions. That being said I have some critiques. First (like many others) parking is atrocious. There are hardly any exit signs and unless you're in an SUV your car will get destroyed. There are potholes and large dips that will ruin your front end. Also if you dont get there before 9:30, expect a very long hike to the entrance. Next put a cap on how many people are allowed to attend. There were hundreds of people just waiting for the fair to open and the numbers just kept increasing. Another gripe I have is you're not allowed to bring in water bottles and must instead either pay $5 a bottle or pray there's no line at the water fountain and that it's working. Its Texas. To be honest I'm surprised the fair hasn't jumped on the marketing band wagon and made refillable cups that can be used all day like other theme parks have. Even our local spring fair does that. If you go i highly recommend carrying cash as most places do not take cards and the ones that do had issues with wifi connection (which is not their fault). Make sure you take quite a bit with you because on top of $5 water, you'll be spending between $6-$20 on food (this is on 1 item not several). As I said we did enjoy the fair, just wish I had read the other...
Read moreScarborough Hollow is not worth anything you pay. The admission price is ridiculous considering everything is extra on top of that. You basically pay $30 per person to use the restrooms and watch a few of the acts that you might see in the spring. We paid for the haunted houses but they weren't worth the time or money. The petting zoo is just goats and sheep and you pay $7 per person and then pay extra for food to feed them. None of the rides were open. All in all, it was a total cash grab. They put barely any effort into this. We loved Screams every year and are so disappointed that we will not be back. I think I'm over Renaissance faires in general after this. I would not recommend it to anyone who i liked or respected, as I would lose all credibility. Also, there were hornets everywhere, getting in people's drinks, landing on faces. My husband got stung, minding his...
