This is a Leash Free Dog Park. The city has tried to market it as a general park but the dog owners of Waynesboro have had the last say. Thousands of dogs a week perhaps more grace this park with their presence. It is their land. In this day and age it is great to have a place to go to let your dog run free as they were always meant to do. It is their nature. I'm so glad I live nearby for my dogs sake. They are my babies, my children. They get to run and play with other dogs, it is how we socialize our dogs. It is their Netflix, their form of entertainment most days.
I have lived all over this country and traveled to many more places. There is no dog park like this anywhere. It is the Greatest Leash Free Dog Park in Virginia possibly the east coast. It is 2 miles in circumference plus trails in the woods. No fences to keep dogs in because the dog park is so large. Many, many years ago this was a large farm.
It is not really a park to go exercise, unless you like being chased by dogs. Dogs generally do not like to see people running, it excites them. Also not a park to bring the family, unfamilular dogs generally don't do well with children they do not know. I would say stay away if you do not have a dog or have a fear of dogs, you will be sorely out of place.
If you are a dog owner though, you have found a dog paradise. It is Waynesboro, Virginia's only claim to fame if you ask me. It is the only thing that makes Waynesboro truely unique. We live here and if the city ever changes this park or develops it. We are done here.
We truly enjoy this park. I go over to the park almost everyday and walk with my 2 dogs over beautiful rolling grass covered hills with a panoramic view of the mountains and through the nature trails. I walk for 2 hours and that is 6 miles for me...
Read moreAbsolutely loved this gem of a park. There aren’t too many places I’ve found that allow dogs off leash aside from “small” fenced dog parks. This park is a dog’s paradise, and we had an absolute blast roaming the trails (be aware, very muddy after all the snow melting) and playing fetch in the huge open fields. Wow. And if it couldn’t get any better, upon leaving I stumbled across this lovely dying fire in the shelter that was left by the previous inhabitants. Thank you Waynesboro for this wonderful area! Worth traveling from Cville to...
Read moreWonderful, under the radar park. Wide open fields that stay regularly mowed where it's perfect to fly kites. They even hold an annual kite flying festival there which is free and great fun for kids and the whole family. Mowed walking trails all around the perimeter of the park. Dog friendly and is even advertised as a dog park. From the parking lot down the hill there is a picnic area great for a small outing or business party. If you're looking for a place to wear out your dog or have a nice "nature" walk, Coyner Springs Park is...
