The trail from the Marconi SITE parking lot (which is free, as opposed to the Marconi BEACH area which is not during the season) leads you to an enchanting boardwalk trail through the swamp. It's enjoyable for both kids and adults. Reminds me of the Fire Swamp (see The Princess Bride) minus the ROUS's. The marked trail down is hard pack with lots of steps and tree roots, and goes up & down a bit. As an alternative you can take the straight, wide and fairly constant graded trail which is mostly packed sand with tree roots and a few steps. This is the route you'd come back up on anyway. This trail is just a few yards in from the parking lot and branches to the right. A third option is to park at the Rail Trail on Le Count Hollow Rd and walk 1/4 mile to Wireless Road, which will take you to the boardwalk trail without significant...

We enjoyed our spur of the moment peaceful and scenic hike at this location and definitely recommend it. We did get a little confused by the off-shoot routes that lacked signage. Found ourselves on the boardwalk swamp trail, mostly by accident, and were happy to have brought bug spray. Fortunately, we found our way back to the main trail and parking area easily. There's probably a map available online or at the visitors center that that we didn't check for ahead of time, so the confusion about the trail was due to our lack of planning. There are also bathroom facilities and a picnic area at the entrance to the trail. Great inexpensive...

I highly recommend doing this walk. I have done it in fall, winter, and summer, and it's beautiful every time! In the summer, the natural canopy provides nice shade so you don't feel the heat. Additionally, the walk is not too long or arduous, so don't worry about difficulty.

CAVEATS: Being a swamp, expect a LOT of mosquitos in the warmer weather. Bug spray is highly recommended. Additionally, the sign at the start of the trail will tell you that pets are not permitted on the walk. However, that does not seem to stop anyone and no one is really around to enforce that rule... so go ahead and...

From the Marconi Wireless Station parking lot is the trailhead for White Cedar Swamp Trail. This is a great two mile easy walk (with a few hills). There is also a Fire Road that crosses the trail which you can walk on to extend your hike to Lecount Hollow Road.. A few other smaller trails lead off the Fire Road. You can get to an area where people walk down the dunes to the beach (steep and not official). A great day hiking in the Cedar forest and along the beach. Parking is limited to about 30 cars. A bathroom is available just off the parking lot.
