I’ve been going to this local pool for a while now, and while I appreciate having a place to cool off with my child during the summer, I feel obligated to share some serious concerns.
The biggest issue is the complete lack of supervision from many parents. Despite clear rules stating that children five and under must have in-water adult supervision, it’s routinely ignored. Parents often sit on the sidelines while their kids run wild, and it’s left to the lifeguards—who are clearly stressed and doing their best—to constantly intervene. It’s simply not safe, and it’s unfair to expect the lifeguards to do the job of a parent.
Just recently, my own son was pushed underwater by an unsupervised child. It was incredibly frightening and could’ve ended badly. I regularly see children in the deep end who clearly aren’t ready for it, or have life jackets on but no parents, and no one is stepping in—until the lifeguards are forced to react in emergency mode.
To make matters worse, during adult swim (which should be a much-needed break and a chance for adults to relax), kids are still in the water, and enforcement is nearly nonexistent. It feels chaotic and inconsistent, and it adds to the overall sense that there’s no real control or safety structure in place.
Another concern is the lack of enforcement around other posted rules—like the policy that no clothing is allowed in the pool. Time and time again, people are swimming in full clothes with no consequences. On top of that, it’s extremely uncomfortable seeing older kids, especially girls, running around without tops. In today’s world, that’s not something to brush off. It’s concerning from a safety and privacy standpoint.
This pool has potential, and the lifeguards are doing what they can, but without stronger support from management and accountability from the adults who bring their kids, it’s far from the safe, family-friendly place it should be. I truly hope things improve before a serious accident...
Read moreThis has always been one of my favorite parks. Away from any busy roads (Heinke road is long but nowhere near busy with traffic and has few incidences of speeding) or load business areas, this very spacious park is surrounded by suburban homes and is adorned with a swimming facility, multiple play areas, a tennis court with several nets and a practice wall, and a volleyball sandtrap! This place has it all and it's free to visit the park areas. You can also rent the multiple shelters for outdoor events. Dogs and pets are welcome and there are several waste bins along the boundless acreage and winding walking paths throughout and even doggie bag posts with complimentary bags for proper waste disposal, a water fountain with dog level water spigot/bowl attached. There's even a little free library established just inside the park next to the spacious parking area. Growing up next to this park gave me plenty to do outside growing up and a safe place to play during the day after school with its open areas and surrounding neighborhoods overlooking the park. And with patrol cars frequenting the area, there's very little crime or drug use associated with the park during after-hours. Overall just a...
Read moreOur favorite public pool in the Dayton area. We have a drive of at least 30 minutes to get here, but it's usually worth it. CLEAN every time I've been here. Adults only swim time at 10-to the hour before kids are allowed back in. Swim lanes are not roped off, and enough people stand or drift around chatting in the marked lanes without watching out for the few of us trying to swim laps, so it can be a zigzagging obstacle course. I'm no speedster, and I'm sure my Darth Vader lungs give enough warning that coming, but I still end up backstroking into people's backs. Concession stand is pretty good. Water slide. Splash areas with sprayers. Zero depth entrance on one end all the way to a full 5 feet deep at the rope separating the 12 feet deep diving area that has 2 different diving boards. Separate toddlers wading pool. And the whole pool area is huge. Lots of open grassy areas for running around, playing games, throwing or kicking a ball or disc around, and several shelters with picnic tables. Bring your own lawn chair or use their many quality sunbathing...
