The Trail of the Cedars is along the Going to the Sun Highway inside Glacier National Park, at the Avalanche Creek area. It's roughly 6 tenths of a mile long and most of it is raised boardwalk. It's nicely done, dry, clean, and easy walking, plus it is accessible to wheel chairs and strollers. There is parking but it can get crowded, since this is a very popular destination.

These are old growth cedars; some are in excess of 80-feet tall. Avalanche Creek and it's lovely waterfall will be heard before it can be seen. The trail splits in two. One section loops around the cedars, and the other branches off and becomes a two-mile hike to Avalanche Lake. This section is steeper.

It is cool, peaceful, and beautiful under the trees along this trail. It is bug free and we enjoyed this walk very much. Avalanche...

Definitely stop for this little trial. Almost the whole trail you smell the sweet unmistakable scent of the Red Cedars. Its an easy walk with many educational plaques and even poetry on some of them. Its a trail that you can also branch off of and go on up 2 miles to Avalanche Lake. I would recommend hitting this trail, that you can take anyone in your family on, during early morning or later evenings because it will get hard to find a parking space in peak times. There are bathrooms next to the part of the trail that's is close to the parking area. Avalanche Creek makes an appearance on the trail and cuts a very beautiful course...

This is a very nice gentle and relaxing trail at only 0.8 miles and only 36 feet in elevation change. The elevated wooden boardwalk with placards explaining what certain trees are is very relaxing and helpful. To see some wonderful waterfalls, flow the trail to the left and it will take you quicker to Avalanche Lake Trail. There is a quick steep hill to climb but the waterfalls are worth the climb and they are not far so you can turn around if you don’t want to do the 5.7 miles hike out and back from Avalanche Lake.
