EDIT: Notice that I'm the only review they conveniently choose to not reply to.
Dealing with this location was consistently frustrating, especially with their very poor communication. While I will no longer use them for any of my pet services, I also do not recommend this location to others.
At the very minimum I just expect reliable services and communication, something this organization has not been able to offer.
I adopted my kitten Spring on Jan 6th, 2024, but because he still need to be fixed, staff told me he would need to remain at the shelter until the 9th and I could pick him up later that day. That was fine. On the 9th, I called West Chester to get a status on the surgery, and I spoke with a representative that said someone would call me back momentarily. I received a call shortly after that the surgery was a success and that he was ready for pick up. When I arrived to pick him up, not only did the surgery not happen, but my kitten Spring was suffering an infection in which an antibiotic was prescribed for him that next two weeks that I would need to administer. I was quite shocked that this wasn't communicated to me over the phone, and disappointed with the miscommunication between their own staff, but I understand that these things can happen.
I was then surprised when I was billed for a monthly pet insurance that I never agreed to. When adopting Spring, I was made aware of an optional insurance, but I told the representative that I was not interested, which they said was fine. Regardless, Brandywine billed me anyway without my knowledge, provided me NO information of this insurance, and never provided me with a receipt. I needed to go through my credit card company to identify the pet insurance provider and correct this.
After two weeks had passed, I then contacted Brandywine to schedule the surgery, and it wasn't until about an additional week that I was finally able to get ahold of somebody. I expressed that my kitten was still sick and sneezing and wasn't sure if a surgery would still have to wait. The person over the phone stated that I could bring Spring in that evening to have someone do a check-up on him. When I arrived, which is an hour drive, they then said it would be best if the surgeon could just look at him on the day of the surgery. This was frustrating to me, because I could have just scheduled an appointment for surgery over the phone rather than having a representative tell me to come bring him in first if all they were going to say was that they wouldn't be able to provide a diagnosis.
On the morning of the surgery, which took 30 mins to get ahold of someone since the front doors were locked, the vet tech asked me if Spring had anything to eat that morning, and I said yes. She then took Spring and said he'd be ready that evening. 30 mins on my way home, that same vet tech then called me informing me that the surgery had to be postponed since Spring had eaten. More frustration because I had never been told that he shouldn't eat anything the day of surgery, and I was confused why the vet tech would ask me that question and take Spring if she knew they wouldn't be able to do the surgery. I would have greatly preferred to just take him home then cause him the stress of remaining at the shelter overnight.
After the surgery, I eventually schedule a follow-up wellness visit on Feb 22 at the West Chester location, and received an email saying a rep would call me to arrange a day. It wasn't until March 3rd that someone called and said they're looking forward to having me come in on the 5th as if I was already aware. I explained that was the first I was I was hearing of this appointment and nobody had previously arranged a date with me. During this time, I did in fact receive confirmation emails for other pets that weren't mine, which is a very careless on their end.
This location is unreliable and I strongly encourage others to...

UPDATED REVIEW AFTER FOLLOW UP
This is an updated review after getting a follow-up call from Mike the COO I believe. I appreciate him taking his time out to better understand my experience & not try to make excuses for anyone but to see what could be done better or differently for future visits or to avoid running into the same issues again from a different person. He took his time and really explained everything I needed to know with clarity and concern making sure that our call wasn't ended without me really knowing the process because that was my first time ever adopting a puppy. So it takes nothing but a few minutes to really go over the full process and if the staff member can't explain just finding someone who can and is willing to answer any questions. Again like I stated before I don't think it's a bad place it could've just been that day and I completely understand we are all human and have our days but we should all be extended some type of GRACE!! My review was to just make them aware that as my first time trying to adopt an animal at that time wasn't the greatest experience. But to know they really take the time out to follow-up and try to make the situation better I'm impressed. Thank you again MIKE for your time and call!
OLD REVIEW
Nice place, I can say something was off a bit maybe it was just the day but some of the people I crossed paths with didn't seem enthusiastic about working or even to eager with trying to assist me with anything. Seemed a bit chaotic.. I am interested in trying to adopt 2 new puppies Karsen & Koda but that didn't go over to well. One because they didn't have alot of information on them as far as the breed & I wouldn't know what to look for with health conditions, food intake & things of that nature. They have them down as being large dogs fully grown at (44lbs)and I thought that was considered to be medium size. Also how would they really know if they're not fully sure of the breed. I get they are puppies but to not know all the full important details having to pay $500 for each. On top of them being boys and not allowing me the option of deciding if I wanted to get them neutered or not. I was told they had to get it done as a part of the process.
Outside of that I'm a animal lover and would love the additions to my family. Even with calling on the phone trying to put a hold on the two I want so they wouldn't get taken away from me before I could get my partner to come the next day or so to see them since I was told everything had to be done in person and I couldn't get the paperwork sent to me in email or fax to sign & send right back with payment.
I definitely try not to be that person who causes issues or is to difficult to work with because I myself work in medical & customer service to me is everything!! Would love to have those babies, unfortunately I don't feel as though I was given a fair opportunity to give them a great new home like my partner and...

After a second call from the COO, the support provided to address their mistakes exceeded my expectations. Mike demonstrated understanding, awareness, and empathy. He offered whatever assistance he could to rectify the situation. Despite the challenges of ensuring the health of my pets over the past month, I am pleased that they took responsibility and initiative to improve not only for my benefit but also for future adopters. While I dislike complaining, my dedication to my pets knows no bounds. Mike ensured that my concerns were heard, speaking to me on a personal level, and I even gained some insights from the experience. Ultimately, we are all human, and animals are animals, so health issues cannot always be avoided. I genuinely appreciate Mike and the shelter for implementing additional protocols, such as quarantine measures, to educate adopters about common illnesses and ensure that these messages are effectively communicated.
ORIGINAL REVIEW BELOW
Caution: Serious Kennel Cough Alert! I recently adopted a lovely puppy from this shelter, and while I'm thrilled and absolutely in love with her, she gave my older dog (Black Lab) a scary case of kennel cough, resulting in hundreds of dollars in vet bills for him. Seemingly healthy with no symptoms, I had no idea she was even carrying an illness! The adoption process was unusually swift and easy. While I appreciate the trust they had in me, I can't help but worry about what might happen if the process is too breezy for the wrong person.
The rushed process didn't clearly inform me about the puppy carrying an illness; instead, I received antibiotics "just in case." I signed a paper upon payment, assuming it was for the transaction, not realizing it acknowledged the possibility of illness. Timing was odd for such a crucial document.
While I understand illnesses can spread in shelters, daycares, and other highly populated animal areas, I would've really appreciated a very direct warning to avoid risking my older pup. Perhaps an obvious sign or notification of an active illness would have made the message more clear. I've been anxiously caring for our older pup as he's our world, while trying to raise this beautiful pup in an stress-free environment. Regretfully, I failed to read reviews before adopting, and also failed to thoroughly read any paper work handed to me, missing a chance to dodge this nightmare.
Perhaps shelter donations could prioritize precautions and sanitization procedures, such as asking for air purifiers, cleaning supplies and equipment in keeping illnesses at bay.
I’m excited for the nightmare to be over so I can get back to enjoying our expanded fur family, as I really am in love with the puppy we adopted, but wanted to spread caution to ensure others do their research and look up best practices in keeping kennel cough from spreading in their household...
