Came here to enjoy the dunes and check out the lake. We were there about 30 minutes before being approached by an 'environmental enforcement officer' around 330pm on Saturday. He proceeded to tell us it was hunting season and we should have been wearing neon orange vests. I verbalized my genuine surprise, and tried to keep a FRIENDLY and RESPECTFUL conversation with this man, as none of us knew this. The "officer" took my surprise as either sarcasm or blatant lying because he then became incredibly condescending and rude to us (and accused me of lying) because "there were signs at the entrance". He made sure to tell us about 30 more times, and he couldn't wrap his brain around the fact that we didn't see them. We were all from out of state, and I don't track every states hunting season, because I'm not a hunter. We just happened to miss the signs on the way in and it was a genuine mistake. We entered from the side opposite where the information was posted (above our eye level/ heads and in in tiny lettering) and didn't see them until we were on the way out. He seemed hostile at this point and finished the conversation with what came off as a threat to us. "Well, you've been warned." I was shocked and it seemed he just wanted something to be mad about at that point. We were not out there trying to get shot. We missed the signs, it was a mistake. There was no need to be condescending, rude or hostile toward us, and because of this we will not be returning. To add, the dunes looked like an abandoned...
Read moreFirst time here and loved it. Nice open area to either just walk around, come for photos and able to fly drones. I came here with my wife took a few photos and video of her and there was some guys on dirt bikes in which I got some nice footage of them going up and down the dunes on the bikes. I do have to say at moments it felt a bit unsafe due to the bikes just be blasting up the dunes and some people walking about definitely opening the chances of getting hit. So I suggest always being on a bit of high alert and keep an eye and ear open...

I guess way back in the day it was a giant parking lot and then the company made it into a hiking place. We like to go hiking, sledding and love to run out remote control cars there. I suggest to bring some biodegradable toilet paper with you since you might need to find a tree with all that walking. Bring something to drink as well!! Great...
