This spot is along the Blue Ridge Parkway northeast of Boone. Basically a steep hill covered in long grass with a short path leading to the top. On the other side of the hill, a rough path leads down sharply, and gets lost to view in a belt of trees. It's not clearly part of the park, at least it's not marked as such, so we didn't take it.
Unfortunately, the short walk/climb offers no breathtaking view from the hilltop. It's just a chance to stretch your legs and walk through tall grass.
For a better view of the surrounding countryside, go to the left immediately after crossing through the fence and in less than 50 feet there's a shady viewing spot. As of mid-2021 there was a tree with a thick, sturdy branch about 4 feet off the ground, good for leaning on while...
Read moreJust a great view. So much beauty in one spot. Bring a lawn chair and sit back and enjoy the day. Of course you will be constantly bombarded with other people wanting to take in the excellent scenery. Maybe bring a backpack and drinks and hike on over that mountain you can see in the distance. I don't know if it is good enough for a hang glider but hey why not, right? Better yet just make you a set of wings out of cardboard and maybe a trash bag tied to a rope to act as a parachute if all else fails. Goid...
