PSA: DO NOT USE GOOGLE MAPS STRAIGHT THERE, FIND THE VISITOR CENTER ADDRESS FIRST AND GO THERE. YOU WILL BE LOST, YOU WILL LOSE SERVICE.

Mixed bag, one of the more sincerely beautiful places I've ever stayed. Had a great many memories made. However in terms of amenities, I was rather shocked at what was presented us. Far and away the worst bathrooms of any campground I've ever stayed in. There's a public pool half a days walk away from your site, that you must plan around and change to get ready for. Signs posted can say it closes at 10, it's 2'o clock, and the pool is closed. My girlfriend and I were upset beyond belief that nobody thought to mention this to the campers. The fire ring at our primitive site was completely and totally overgrown, we couldn't find it until we tripped over it, and even if there isn't a smoke ring I at least expected a tiny bit of maintenance. Again, the bathrooms are abysmal. Awful sheets cover holes in the wall and with one slight gust of wind, you're exposed. We never had a day where at least one child didn't peep on either of us in these restrooms. Was incredibly uncomfortable as neither of us are parents and want to be in that situation. The site itself was beautiful, the neighbors friendly, and the camps staff kind. I really have so much good to walk away with, on the whole, the week for me was great. But I expected this to be a place I could bring my girlfriend and have the basics covered. We felt a little ripped off, sadly. Drove a long while to come here when much slummier, shadier camps nearer to us at least have walled bathrooms. Mixed bag, beautiful spot, if you can survive it you'll love it. If you have a girlfriend who feels genuienly unsafe taking a shower? little bit less so, and I'm not annoyed with her over that, because God I really didn't want to take the showers I took...

The view is beautiful. The cabins are much nicer than the pictures. There's plenty of space in between cabins so you don't feel like you're squished in with everyone. There is some privacy. The Wi-Fi and cell signal is shotty at best, but we didn't go there to spend all day online. We just wanted enough access to make sure there were no emergencies at home. The showers could be larger. If you're a bigger person, be prepared to bang your elbows. However, the water pressure is better then most hotels I've stayed at! The bed was nothing fancy and I was afraid it was going to be uncomfortable, but I was surprised that I didn't wake up with back pain! Bring extra blankets if you run cold. We brought one and I wish we had one more. The free firewood is a huge plus! We were going to build a fire outside in the pit, but it was rainy so we used the fireplace instead and it was lovely to sit and listen to wood crackle and pop. I forgot the cream for my coffee and was hoping the campground store would have some type of milk product for sale, but they didn't carry groceries. Thankfully there is a grocery store very close buy if you need any food items. There are also a few restaurants if you don't want to cook. We went in fall and it was chilly so we used the heat, which worked exceedingly well! I can't speak for the a/c because we had no need for it. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. They answered any questions we had and helped us out as much as possible! They really made us feel welcome! We will definitely go back and would highly recommend the cabins to anyone looking to unplug and get away from the world for a...

We've been visiting Bluestone State Park near Hinton, WV for years (mostly during the Fall or Winter "off season") and have always enjoyed our time there. We just got back home from a 4 day camping trip to the Park and our experience this time wasn't quite what it's been in the past. Our first "issue" was w/ reserving a campsite. We checked availability for several days before finally succeeding in booking a site. Come to find out that most of the sites in the Meador Campground and the entire Old Mill Campground were closed due to flooding that had occurred earlier in the season. (That's not the Park's fault. It just would have been nice if the website had stated that so we would have known what to expect before we arrived at the Park.) We ended up booking Site 3 in the Meador Campground which was just great. It was huge -- and very private since it was the only site on the lower loop of the campground that was open. Our second "issue" (and the real reason for the 3-Star Rating/Review) was w/ the condition of the hiking trails. Large sections of most all of the trails we hiked were not maintained (overgrown with dense brush and littered with down limbs/tree branches.) Several trails were totally impassable (like the lower section of the Big Pine Trail which is close to the Meador Campground.) Even sections of the Turnpike Trail was very overgrown with multiple years of underbrush growth (which is saying something for an old riverbank road that was in used until the 1940s.) Overall, we had a good time; but our experience just wasn't what it's been...

Beautiful place. Lots of deer. Plenty of parking near docks. Friendly staff. Clean. Currently, there is construction at the office, but you can enter through the employee door. (So the gift shop is a tight fit.) But they are willing to work with you if you need a different size, different color, etc. If you arrive late, your cabin will be open. We had a mouse in our cabin and they provided mouse traps. Shower had good pressure and water was hot. No ice maker. No chairs on deck so bring your own. The area around the fire pit was nice and had plenty of seating. Outside grill clean and in good shape. They could use more trash cans near the fishing areas And some signs at the entry of the park to tell you how far the offices would be nice. The beds were horrible unless you like a super firm mattress, and they were loud. Everytime my husband rolled over it stirred me from sleep, But I am a lightsleeper. My daughter ended up using the roll away bed because it was softer than the bed in her room. And of course the springs on it was fairly loud as well. We didn't get a chance to use the event center because there were no events while we were there. But the building, grounds and playground look nice
