My boyfriend and I were looking for a relaxing weekend away to start out our 2021 and the staff at Cabwaylingo State Forest made sure we had everything we needed. Despite an issue with the septic system the first day with our first cabin, we were easily provided the opportunity to stay at another cabin the next day to stay at for the remainder of our trip. Rose, the secretary and Eugene the maintenance man were very accommodating and helped us get signed in and situated in both of our cabins. They were available and eager to help us at any point. Debbie, the Housekeeper, was the absolute kindest person we met! She not only left each cabin spotless, she left us extra blankets and wood since we had to move cabins. We had a great conversation and Debbie made my boyfriend and I feel welcomed at Cabwaylingo. Her kindess is contagious! Stuart, the park officer even stopped by and made sure we had settled in nicely. Again, we were welcomed and made to feel that we were in great hands with him and the rest of the staff around. I am not sure who this message will be sent to, but if you could relay our thanks to them it would be great appreciated! They do a fantastic job and we hope to be back soon.

Cabwaylingo is the southern anchor to the compelling AHH152 Tourism Corridor, 50 miles of fantastic Appalachia Heartland Highway heritage and recreation attractions. This very peaceful and underutilized state forest has fantastic recreational opportunities for picnicking, hiking, fishing, playing in the stream, with numerous ATV trails (soon to be part of the Hatfield McCoy OHV Trail System). Stay overnight in 1930s refurbished cabins or camp rustically (Tick Ridge) or with full hookup at Spruce Creek. Only a gas station convenience store before entering the park on AHH152, so bring your food and drink!

Really enchanting area and the cabins have been renovated for ultimate guest comfort, we can’t wait for our next visit! Also worth mentioning that the staff was top notch in hospitality, we had to leave a night early due to a family emergency and they refunded the last night which we thought was was kind. We will recommend this retreat to friends and family for years to come

My husband and I just spent two nights at Cabwaylingo for v Christmas, and we loved every minute! Our first day was clear and sunny which allowed us to go walking to see the other cabins near us. That evening a gentleman came to our cabin to see if we needed more firewood AND to bring us a shovel and salt for the predicted snow. When we told him that our batteries for the remote was weak, he promised to return that evening with new ones. He was most kind and helpful. The next morning we woke to the sound of rain, but we thoroughly enjoyed a 5 mile hike across a mountain anyway on Christmas Eve day. On Christmas morning we were thrilled to see inches of snow everywhere! It was the epitome of a beautiful Christmas morning! Unfortunately, we had no electricity during that night, but we were prepared with plenty of quilts and food. We are both so very grateful for the kindness of everyone who works there. A park ranger even showed up on Christmas eve just to make sure we were aok. This short trip was wonderful, and I desperately want to visit again. I would HIGHLY recommend Cabwaylingo to anyone who has a desire to "get back to nature". It was a really a...

My whole extended family goes for a McCoy Family Reunion every year on Labor Day weekend and we all LOVE it!! In West Virginia, not sure what town, the Hatfield and McCoy family feud is a legend basically. It is the highlight of the year for me. We have gotten the same cabins for 40+ years. And every year we go to the creek and swim! and the reunion spot, every new person goes into the prayer circle and introduces themselves and gets their name written on the sheet we've passed in for 6 generations. Everyone there is so kind and helpful! There are 4 wheeling trails along with hiking trails and there's something...
